My favorite story about something like this is when a customer ordered a grande “half caf” latte. I was on DTO so I punched in grande latte 1/2 decaf.
The customer saw the screen and got annoyed. “I said half caf, not half decaf.” I asked, “oh okay, do you want just a single shot?” She says no, I want the two shots, half caf. I replied, that is half caf then. The other half is decaf.
She quietly said “oh” and pulled up to the window.
strawberriesmangoes77 points1y ago
Her: “I never thought what the other half could be” lmao
Seaboats33 points1y ago
I think so 😂 To this day I wonder what she thought the other half was
Allopathological8 points1y ago
The other half is the half without caf obviously
SkippyMonroe20 points1y ago
There are 2 types of people in this world: Half Decaf, and Half Caf.
ScalieDraggy3 points1y ago
Half empty, half full.
bryceofswadia6 points1y ago
I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen tbh.
rudebii2 points1y ago
Work in coffee long enough and it will eventually. I’ve had it happen to me once.
The one weird thing I remember rn is when I had someone order a latte “protein style.” This was in the 00s and Atkins was all the rage. Burger chain In N Out has a “protein style” off menu option that is a burger served bun-less wrapped in lettuce.
That and the “black guy” that a lady ordered one time that’ve posted about recently.

Haha. I also love when people ask for a “Thai Chi” latte instead of a Chai tea.
Also I used to have a regular that would order a venti iced coffee with enough cream to make it “Beyoncé color”. He thought that was hilarious.
rudebii1 points1y ago
There is a thing called “Thai tea” that is usually iced (sometimes hot too though), we’d get that request once in a while.
neo_is_the_one2 points1y ago
I know im a week late but I just had someone like that today.
"Can i have to caramel macchiatos, one not decaf?"
"...so just one of them decaf?"
"No no, one not decaf, so I want the caffeine."
"Ooookay, so a regular caramel macchiato, and the other one... decaf?"
"Yeah"

There is a surprising amount of people that come in my store believing we can just put it in a microwave to heat it up… No, that’s not a microwave behind me, it’s an OVEN
gay_robots [OP]3 points1y ago
Theoretically we could steam it, but coffee is so sensitive to temperature that I guarantee if we managed to heat it up it would NOT taste the same
imahawtcat31 points1y ago
I always laugh at this, but I think it happens cause some places do sell “hot” cold brew. Like Dutch Brothers has a Toasted Cold Brew.
zydr8te16 points1y ago
I had someone upset that their iced coffee had ice in it. They explained they thought it was a different beweing process, like iced wines or something.
SovietRaptor7 points1y ago
Warmed up cold brew tastes like vomit.
P_2_P3 points1y ago
But hot brewed cold brew is surprisingly smooth
SovietRaptor4 points1y ago
So just brew?
TemplarSensei74 points1y ago
(Palpatine’s voice): BREWIT.
P_2_P2 points1y ago
Yes technically. But cold brew roast pour over is top notch.
megs128813 points1y ago
“No, but you can get the fuck away from my counter.” “Have a good day!”
Don’t forget to smile, you know, customer connections and all

Lady in DT asked, "What's the difference between a hot latte and an iced latte?"
lobosloboslobos5 points1y ago
ma’am
august4017 points1y ago
this has me wondering how it would taste if we steamed it
cheeercamp8 points1y ago
Do It!! I get it once a week with separately steamed VSC. (I make it myself cause I don’t wanna be that guy and other stores just won’t do it for me). Sooo creamy and smooth
clumsycalico3 points1y ago
A girl at our store does steamed nitro. I haven’t tried it though
bananawallet6 points1y ago
I mean it is less acidic, they may just want the smoothness of cold brew.
rudebii2 points1y ago
This is what I loathe about cold brew in general. I like that brightness, especially in iced coffee.
Even iced americanos retain that acidity, though most espresso blends use a lot of Indonesian coffee beans.
I hot brew African-heavy blends or single origins hot then chill at home.
gay_robots [OP]2 points1y ago
But that comes from the brewing method, not the blend. If I made a pour over using our cold brew blend it would probably retain more acid
bananawallet3 points1y ago
Right, which is probably why they asked for a cold brew hot? You can’t achieve that smooth taste without cold brewing it.
MyPolyesterElbow5 points1y ago
A woman came in earlier and asked for a decaf cold brew and got angry when I told her we don't have that. She ended up with a decaf American and tried to explain that it's actually called a decaf cold brew. 🙃
gay_robots [OP]15 points1y ago
Starbucks customers know nothing about what they’re ordering or even just coffee in general
[deleted]3 points1y ago
We’ve steamed the cold brew at my store I’ve heard it’s ok
valucianos2 points1y ago
I’ve had a bunch of orders be decaf and blonde, I’m just like we don’t have those?
cherrythot2 points1y ago
One of my favorite memories is when my ex boyfriend was taking an order and this guy asked for a cold brew. My ex explained that we were out of cold brew and this man goes “DAMN, YALL GOT THE HOT BREW?”
abrumm942 points1y ago
My dad actually orders his cold brew hot sometimes. He told me that and I was so confused about it. Apparently that’s how he gets it at Dutch Bros and I went to pick it up for him once and asked them how they make it hot and they told me they just steam it. He said he tried ordering it like that at Starbucks and they had no idea what he was talking about. Lmao
baristasgtpepper2 points1y ago
This one lady was adamant on getting a hot cold brew so I just steamed cold brew and she seemed happy…
