Tip: Starbucks doesn’t care about your feelings or what happens to you. Do your job and go home, you’re an hourly worker don’t expect a lot! Bad days happen and by your posts I can see you like your job for the most part, it’ll be okay
designated-grapes50 points1y ago
I stopped doing the most and started doing the bare minimum because my coworkers started taking advantage of me. I realized it wasn't worth my extra stress on top of taking max classes ASU every semester only for them to not give a fuck.
Needless to say, life has gotten much better!
Flowerfuls31 points1y ago
If nobody had been there to see you fall they wouldn’t have known how hurt you were. You didn’t exactly say it. I’m a little dense myself so I wouldn’t have known you were hurt likely unless you said so. Sometimes “fell” means slipped a little bit. Or a lot. It’s vague to some.
Just take a deep breath. Relax. Some days I feel tense with my SSV and partners. Some days I’m not though. It doesn’t sound like they’re going out of their way to be offensive or whatever. I don’t think they understand you were hurting especially after that last bit where he asked if you were okay. It just probably wasn’t obvious to them at first.

ANY manager should IMMEDIATELY inquire about the status of any employee involved in any kind of accident. You/they/we should ALWAYS ask ‘Are you okay?’ before anything else.
E-Aphrodite8 points1y ago
Yea after that incident, my manager talking to me a lot during my shift… he’s a new manager at our store and hasn’t work at Starbucks since 2001. I’m over it now, though I wish we had better shift leads.
BatWeary22 points1y ago
First, I hope you’re okay. I fell and hurt my foot pretty bad doing a trash run and had zero sympathy from my temp ASM at the time—your SM/SSV should have made sure you were okay!!
I used to be one of the partners that would take care of my partners before I took care of myself. It was ruining my mental and physical health but I dealt with it, because my coworkers were happy and that’s what mattered (at the time). After a particularly bad shift where I got stuck soloing bar for 8 hours with absolutely no support, on a holiday weekend Saturday, it broke me and I haven’t been that “hardworking” partner anymore. That was the first day I cried in front of my coworkers. I was sent right back to that fucking bar alone but with help for 15 minutes (like it made a difference...). I was super close to being promoted too lol. I’ve been doing the absolute bare minimum since. It makes me feel bad especially to see my coworkers struggle but at the end of the day I go home in a better mood. This company takes their best employees and drives them into the ground so fast, it’s sad
Edited to add: I wrote this comment and then looked at the rest of the comments...and they did NOT pass the vibe check. It doesn’t matter if it happens often or if OP is being “petty”. They fell because of boxes that should have never been left on the floor anyway because they’re, idk, a TRIPPING HAZARD??? Even after telling a coworker and a shift that they fell it was brushed off. Any decent human would have immediately made sure they were okay even if OP wasn’t seriously injured. Jesus, I thought as baristas most of y’all would be more compassionate but I guess not
E-Aphrodite5 points1y ago
I appreciate your comment!! It sucks being overlooked, I always stay whenever the next shift is short, I always come in whenever they ask… literally always going above and beyond to be overlooked, I’m done with that
[deleted] [OP]20 points1y ago
I think other people here are being a little dismissive. I know for a fact at my store a SSV or the SM would have been a lot more concerned even if I just told them I slipped and fell. They would at least ask if I was ok.
I think you should definitely see if there is a time you can talk to your SM in private, and explain to him how it felt when the SSV responded to you in that way. If anything it puts that person on the managers radar so they can keep on eye on if this is a recurring problem and if they need to work on developing them with how they talk to partners.
It sounds like between you and the SM there was a misunderstanding, but the SSV outright dismissed you with a sarcastic remark which is really not ok.
E-Aphrodite13 points1y ago
I agree!!! The person commenting earlier made it sound as if I was being a whiny bitch but I actually hurt myself and when I told my lead about it, he literally didn’t care and then my manager totally dismissed me too, it hurt my feelings and I felt kind of betrayed by my own higher ups so ofcourse at the time I made this post was like, “I’m never going out of my way for them blah blah blah.” I was just talking out my behind. I love my job and I like people I work with, so it definitely hurt my feelings when the place I love makes me feel like I don’t matter.
potatopoisoning8 points1y ago
As an SSV, if a partner hurts themselves and I do nothing, *I* would be in big trouble. The first words out of your SSVs mouth should have been “are you okay?”, period. And for your SM to dismiss that as well is not okay. Definitely have a private conversation with your SM about how the situation was handled and how that made you feel not valued as a person. If that conversation goes south, contact your DM (their number should be on some business cards in the lobby) and then Partner Services (number should be posted in the back, or you can call 1-888-sbux411 and they can direct you). Good luck.
Edit: Tell your SM directly you would like to file an incident report. It covers your butt if you find out in a few days that you’re hurt worse than you thought initially. If they refuse to do one that is a huge red flag.
Immediate-Shame-192111 points1y ago
The people in these comments are sooo insensitive omfg.... do Siren boots taste that good? 🤔 anyways, what happened to you was awful and you should’ve been treated with the respect you deserve. So what they didn’t see you fall, the point is that you FELL. It shouldn’t have happened in the first place especially when it could’ve been so easily avoided. And I’m sure you wouldn’t have minded if they had just moved the boxes the first time instead of being a jerk about it. The situation was handled very unprofessionally by your partners, and I’m sorry.
[deleted] [OP]3 points1y ago
I know like wtf where did these assholes even come from… I had no idea so many people have no compassion for others
Immediate-Shame-19211 points1y ago
And to add on to this because i see this as a common rebuttal in these comments: do you seriously think if op hadn’t have actually hurt themselves they would have went to their manager about it? Use your common sense here please 😭
cpv_919 points1y ago
Did you fill out an incident report? Don't overlook this. You may not feel it today but you really could have hurt yourself.
As for the assholes you work with.. Give what you get. It's just not worth it. I have one shift who I will bust ass with because she has my back and I have hers, the rest of them can suck ass. I have had enough. We have been in the trenches together for a long time and we are both tenured partners (115 and 117) and we've never seen things as bad as they are now. This is company isn't even a shadow of what it used to be. Kevin Johnson is the worse thing that ever happened to this company. No idea what it's going to take to bring about real change.
kIose6 points1y ago
Sorry, sucks they didn't pick up on the nuances and were just being silly, dismissive and insensitive. Falling over because of boxes someone laid down is no laughing matter and someone could get very seriously hurt in the future.
BluuBroom5 points1y ago
I know it’s not much but I’m sorry you got hurt, I’ve gotten hurt at work and supervisors just laugh it off or brush it off. I second what everyone else has already said but above all your mental health (and in this case physical health) is more important than being the “perfect” employee.💚
femalehomosapien183 points1y ago
Not to be that person, but complain about back and ankle pain to make them feel bad
MrsClaireUnderwood3 points1y ago
I'm so sorry this happened to you.
Machokeabitch3 points1y ago
…but did you pick them up though?
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
Call it in, even if no one there backs you up, call that in you don’t even have to be at work to call it in, they will ask you why you waited and you tell them the truth.
SouthPomegranate792 points1y ago
Report it to HR
No_Yogurt_46022 points1y ago
The absolute minimum is all you get from them, so it's all you've ever owed them.
Alternatively, there are plenty of places offering easier work for more money rn.
E-Aphrodite-1 points1y ago
Easier? You think I can’t do my job???? What I would like is a good manager :)
No_Yogurt_460212 points1y ago
I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't do your job, just that being a SB barista isn't worth the stress and especially isn't given the compensation.

I mean, it’s not Starbucks’ fault that your SSV didn’t respond to your pain the way you wanted. It’s not the customers fault, it’s not your teams fault, so why are you going to do something that puts everyone at a disadvantage just because one person hurt your feelings?
E-Aphrodite11 points1y ago
Also my lead is apart of the team I’m on, for him to say, “oh that’s fun that you fell?” Lmao you think that’s cool? Is that you respond to your partners being hurt?

I personally think that Starbucks could provide better training for their managers.
NotyourangeLbabe7 points1y ago
Starbucks could provide better training for everybody! They seriously rush it nowadays.

My manager is apart of Starbucks, and let’s be real, Starbucks doesn’t care about their employees no more than Walmart does or else they give better wages.
I always go above and beyond for my team at Starbucks but even they are done with the company. Want to know many people have quit my Starbucks in the last month? 7. So yes I blame the billion dollar company.

I did pick them up, don’t want anyone else to get hurt. I’ve never took my frustrations out any of my coworkers or customers. I’m a good worker but definitely under appreciated.
And to respond to your reply about the sarcastic comment bro… if someone tells me their hurt I’m not going to give a sarcastic comment because I’m not a cunt???? We’re not even cool enough to give sarcastic comment to eachother.
