currently on my 10 trying to not lose my mind bc i used to love this company and in three weeks my whole attitude changed abt it. maybe i’m just not used to seeing the same partners because my store has a huge turnover rate right now but how did i become so interested in coffee (even wanting to be a coffee master) and considered a green bean to suddenly being the oldest partner on the floor (im a 295*). i came to starbucks for the craft and got a glimpse of it. now i work for fast food? i’m supposed to transfer soon for school but is it even worth it?

been feeling the same way even though i’m a super green bean (320*****; been working for 1.5 months). i’m supposed to transfer as well in a month and a half but am considering if i really should. i applied to starbucks expecting the “third place” mentality and a focus on hand crafting coffee but have been thrown into a full on fast food chain that refuses to prioritize what it’s become (speed and sugar).

a part of me wants to take a job at a nice local coffee shop where i can truly handle craft coffee and not confront angry entitled sugar addicts in the drive through every day

Same! I'm also a 320***** and have totally though about switching to a mom-and-pop shop instead. I chose to work at starbucks because I wanted a chance to connect with regulars and craft great coffee, but that had not been my experience so far.

177 here. I worked for the bux forever ago when Schulz was CEO but I left for like 7 years. Now that I'm back, I can really vouch for how much they have changed for the worse.

It sounds like you're at a DT store since that's what makes working here feel like fast food. Back in the day people used to order their drinks first, and then food, now it's flipped.

My suggestion, when you move for school, see if you could transfer to a café-only store? Starbucks does have good benefits for part time workers, but if that doesn't matter to you so much, and you don't let $tarbucks kill your passion for coffee, then try and find a REAL café to work at! You'll learn so much more.

172 here, my first store in 2010 was a dt, but it was def cafe first then dt. Cant even imagine that now.

ugh i feel like you've taken the words out of my own mouth. i'm transferring between stores for school to keep a job throughout college and sometimes i wonder if i really think i can work for the company for that long

I was a barista for mom&pop type places for over 9 years and I really miss it. I had to come to the Bux because I really needed insurance and a retirement plan. I'm a 301 and spent the first 3 months at a DT store and couldn't handle it. As long as I work for Starbucks I don't want to ever work a DT store ever again. I'm now in a mall location and yes it's insane but at least I have my chaos in front of me not in a line wrapped around the building.

251 here.. yeah I came to Reddit in search of hope that I was not the only one feeling this way. Ever since SBux implemented drive thrus at nearly every store, it’s been bad. And not to mention making $8 drinks almost every other order because of tik tok. There is no coffee about it anymore, it’s milk and sugar for a dessert. It’s not a craft like it used to be… it’s not inspiring like it used to be. It’s depressing.

Hey! I’m a shift and I had a partner today who was having a mental breakdown and I explained starbucks benefits for this so Im gonna post the mental health resources here for literally anyone! Lyra’s benefit should last a while after being terminated but I’m not sure about headspace! Please use these while you can. Lyra gives you access to mental healthcare and headspace is great to mediate (anxiety, work/life balance, etc.)

I'm a 301 and when I move I plan on transferring. However, once moved - I fully plan on looking for different jobs. There's a cute local coffee cafe & handmade goods store that is close to where I plan on moving (customers browse while waiting for their coffee to get done). I'm hoping to apply there once I move since I have retail experience and I also now am getting coffee experience. They handpress though which will be an experience! Their coffee though is delicious and so much better than Starbucks.

I’m a 300 and even I feel like an expert on my floor with how many new people we’re getting and my manager just sending all of our staff that have been there longer to any other store but ours. And then we’re understaffed. I don’t know what’s going on but this past month and a half has felt like a nightmare.
