Hi everyone! I just started at Starbucks last week, and learned the basics of hot bar and cold bar. The one thing that I'm nervous about is learning the drink recipes. I would really appreciate it if you shared how you learned bar, and how long after you started you were actually put on bar during a shift. Thanks in advance!

Ask to be put on bar, the longer you put it off the scarier it seems. Also while on till you can see the recipes on the side, so there’s practice either way

i made a cheat sheet of shots (hot and cold), syrup pumps, etc, on my notes app and made that my lockscreen for about a month :) quick reference guide and your inadvertantly looking at it everytime you open your phone. helps drill in the info :)

Ideas for you: -Ask someone to make you training cups! (Write the standard number of shots/syrup pumps on the different size cups). Put them on top of your bar to reference when making drinks. People have posted cheat sheets on here too that have a handy little chart with the standard drink builds.
-The POS will show you the standard recipe for every drink on the right hand side in those little tabs (those tabs are the same as the little boxes on the cups) so if you have down time, that’s a good resource to explore. the POS also shows the beverage id codes, so if your sticker machine ever goes down and you have to hand write cups, that’s good to know.
-there are recipe cards on the iPad (under store resources) and there’s probably physical ones somewhere in your store also.
-practice! Ask for help. Quiz yourself. You might feel like a nuisance, but I am rarely annoyed with new partners who show that they genuinely want to learn and get better and are working at it. It takes about 6 months before you’ll feel really solid. There’s a ton to learn and not enough training time!
You’ll do great!
Oh also check quizlet! There’s quizzes on there too.
