How soon can I transfer? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwaway1213907236
So I just got a new job as a barista and it seems great so far, I really like the environment and everyone who works there. Unfortunately my father closed on a new house and wasn't honest with me about how long to commute to work is from there. After more research on it, it's completely undoable without a car, so I would only be able to work here for about a month and a half before the moving date.

I spoke with my new manager about the fact I was moving, but I made it sound as though I would be able to commute the distance (because I was under the impression I would), so now I'm not sure how to go about informing him I would be able to work at his location past mid September.

Is it possible to ask for a transfer? I'm not sure how to handle this situation, as this is the first job I've had as a permanent hire, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's up to you to find a store to transfer to, so start reaching out to the stores close to your new house asap. Call on a Monday when SMs are almost always at the store and ask to speak to them. It will be like interviewing all over again, you need to sell them on yourself. It's not your current SM's responsibility to find a place for you, but out of respect you should loop them in on your intentions. Once you find a store that can take you, just search for "transfer form" on the hub (partner.starbucks.com), print and fill it out, and give to your SM.

Your SM/DM does have to approve the transfer though so you need to be in good standing with them and they need to be well staffed enough that they can afford to lose you. Your availability needs to meet the needs of your new store, too.

Also, technically transfers can take 6 weeks to 3 months to go through. If you have good SMs and DMs involved it should be closer to 6 weeks but I've seen it take longer when the SM or DM didn't have the partners best interest at heart.

Good luck!
