Wet apron (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by beccawink
So I’m a fairly new green bean (about 2 months) and everyday that I work on bar I leave work with my apron soaking wet and my clothes underneath soaking wet as well. Unfortunately for me, the bar hits right at my hips so it looks like I peed myself. Does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to put some kind of water resistant fabric on the inside of my apron so I don’t have to deal with it?

What is soaking you? If your bar is that wet maybe look at some solutions there first. I may have some wet spots here and there but I’ve never left a shift soaked.

I work at a high volume store so it’s a mixture of the ice bins having a decent amount of ice around and near it melting, the cold bar being wiped often because it gets messy quick (and therefore has wet sanitizer on it), and everyone’s doing something at all times so it’s not easy to have someone go to the back and grab dry towels to dry it off

Whenever you see ice on the counter scoop that shit off into a trash can or throw it into a sink. You can carry a dry rag in your apron to use when you see things going downhill, quick wipe and throw it in the sani bin. It’s okay to pause to clean up! I can’t work with a disgusting wet space and crowded counters. Long term it’ll slow you down bc it’s harder to work in chaos.

nonslip shoes aren't required, and trying to find close-toed, waterproof, inexpensive shoes is difficult enough that at least half my partners don't have nonslips.

I always end up soaked after spending the day on bar, my main cause is the fact that I am very bad about getting ice all over the counter and not just in the cups 😂 so It melts and the apron gets soaked... I don't know if waterproofing your apron will make much difference, it might but it also might not let you wash them as well as dress code wants us to

I have the same problem at my store. I wipe the counter constantly but several of our sinks have minor leaks so the counter is just permanently soaked. At this point i just accept that im gonna be soaked after work. I do know that most sport/camping style stores sell a waterproofing spray made to go on fabrics, so maybe a layer of that on your apron would help make it a little more water repellent? Youd have to reapply occasionally but i think it would be less bulky than an extra layer of fabric

Ooo I didn’t even think about using waterproofing spray! I might have to try that
