keto customer couldn’t *possibly* have vanilla (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hannah_nj
*customer comes to pick up her mobile order and lifts the lid*

customer: is there whipped cream on this?

us: yep! *in a reassuring voice because her sticker said “whip”*

customer: well is there sugar in that??

us: …vanilla syrup?

customer: oh NO that won’t POSSIBLY do. i’m KETO i can’t have any carbs.

us: what was it you were hoping for when you selected “add whipped cream?

customer: i wanted you to use the whipping cream to make my latte.

tl;dr customer wanted latte made with heavy cream but selected “add whip” instead and was upset we didn’t mind read and know she was keto

Telepathy usually kicks in around the 3 month mark.

It kicks in sooner if you burn yourself with the oven and use whole beans instead of ground beans when brewing coffee.

Not to be rude, but HOW IS DRINKING STRAIGHT HEAVY CREAM A 'WEIGHT LOSS' DIET? Like keto diets were originally used to treat epilepsy and neurological disorders, how is drinking 1500 calories in a venti iced heavy cream latte supposed to help you lose weight?

I mean, if you're in ketosis you will lose weight. The problem with that, among other things, is that 95% of people who claim to be on keto will never reach ketosis (which is basically the entire point) because you need so few sugars in your diet, and people really underestimate how little sugar or carbs you eat that'll knock you out of ketosis territory.
The_Septic_Shock 18 points 1y ago
Basically overloading your diet with fat and no sugar forces you to burn fat after running out of sugar and glycogen. Problem is that doing so raises your acid levels in your blood and forces you into ketosis which when done to excess leads to ketoacidosis which is usually found in uncontrolled diabetes sooooo... there's that. I always tell people if you start a major change in your diet to TALK TO A DIETICIAN. you may need supplements or other interventions to not fuck yourself over in the future in the name of health

I lost 5 lb in a month when I switched to black coffee so I don't know

When you’re eating a high amount of fat, you feel very satiated - you don’t reach for snacks. I often found while on keto I was actually eating too low calories because I felt full all the time.

I was exercising as well, so a high calorie/high fat drink is a good idea to make sure I’m getting the energy I need. Also generally it’s not going to be more than 500 calories. You could eat that in like a couple of snacks that are high in carbs without even noticing and they would just cause an insulin spike, making you feel hungry later.

I totally agree that keto isn’t for everyone but I’ve lost 65lbs and kept it off for over a year and I don’t feel like I’m dieting or hungry so it does work - I’m just sorry that all of us keto folks sound a little insane and obsessive to everyone else haha

Okay but people who get their drinks MADE WITH heavy whipping cream….no way that is good. Heavy whipping cream has like 50 calories per TABLESPOON and a venti iced latte has like at least 2 cups of milk in it so you’re talking like 1800 calories for one drink. More people do this than you’d think lol I could understand a splash of heavy cream instead of milk or whatever in a coffee but a latte or pink drink or something that’s 80%+ milk made with heavy cream is a bit much

I’m in the UK so maybe our calories in the cream vary but I could totally see doing that, or having that literally be food for a day and getting carbs and nutrients from veggies and eggs which would be quite low cal, so I’d need something very high calorie and low in carbs to top up. It’s either something like that or cheese or peanut butter etc. But you get so full it’s hard to eat 1500 calories of cheese, easier to drink. I know it sounds weird but it can actually be helpful for weight loss! Just not if you’re going to eat four traditional meals with it too haha - not to shade our customers but you know some are!

Okay like MAYBE that would work for some people who really know what they’re doing and are very aware of what’s going in their bodies, but honestly in my experience all the people I’ve known who’ve tried keto have been people who have no real knowledge of nutrients/calories and are just looking for a quick fix to lose weight without having to work that hard. So they just think that if they don’t eat carbs they’ll lose weight. I also am just generally anti-Keto as a weight loss strategy because for the majority it’s unbalanced and unsustainable and most people gain all the weight back as soon as they stop eating that way

I crunched the numbers and a venti hot latte made with heavy cream is about 1800 kcal. That's more than I eat in a day!

I hate keto customers. They give us actually low carb/keto people a terrible rap.

Sugar free doesn't mean calorie free. The HWC at Starbucks has carbs in it.

My go-to drink is a cold brew with the tiniest splash of HWC. I then add my own stevia drops to it because then my drink is less than 100 kcals. Like... why people insist on getting drinks with HWC is beyond me.

Though I will say, a strawberries & cream with HWC SLAPS. That shit is like ice cream.

If you’ve never had a latte made with heavy cream, they’re glorious.
Walagemini94 36 points 1y ago
I make quite a few of them for those KETO people a day and I don't know how they can drink that much liquid fat in one go without having an upset stomach
