How to put in 2 weeks without people hating me?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hoewenn
So I'm moving on August 19 and need to put in my 2 weeks in about a week from now. I was under the impression I was staying for longer (I started in early June) but it appears I'm not. Normally I don't care what people think when I'm probably never speaking to them again, but since I'm still working two weeks after (obviously) I don't want them all to dislike me for leaving so soon. Any advice on what I should say when I put in my two weeks? (And what to say in general... this is my first job so I have no idea how to do this.)

If you'd like the stay with the bux, you could transfer to another store in the city you are moving too! If not, don't worry to much about it, at least you are putting your 2 weeks in instead of no call-no showing!

I’d love to do that but isn’t the requirement at least six months? I haven’t even been here two months haha

i’ve only been with sbux for a month and a half but i’m moving to college in a month and my SM already said i could transfer?? i think you can still transfer even if you haven’t worked for over 6 months.

I have my transfer approved for when I go back to college in a couple weeks and I have only been working since early May! I would totally ask around if I were OP

In my district, we only allow out of district transfers after 6 months. I'm not sure about others!

It usually is. Sometimes with other issues your SM/DM can approve a switch before the 6mo period. That happened to me 3 months in. I ended up having to go out of state with no notice.
My DM and both the SM's of the stores jumped through a ton of hoops for me. 💔❤️ I don't think I'd be in the position I'm in mentally if I hadn't been able to transfer. They really stepped up and took a chance for me.

They will let you transfer if it’s certain circumstances. Moving is one of the circumstances. You just have to find a Starbucks in your new area that will take you. As for the feeling bad about leaving…don’t. You’re replaceable and they know it and they wouldn’t think twice if they were moving. Make it the happiest two weeks then bounce or transfer. It’s just coffee

Pretty sure you'd be able to transfer! We have people hired just for summer who are going to college in August

I was able to transfer after a month, my sm hired me during my Christmas break knowing i would be transferring in less than a month. Im not 100% but i think the six month rule is more of a guideline to keep people from hopping around/ to give managers time to prepare for transfers and whatnot. I would talk to your sm and see if youd be able to. I was told that Starbucks would rather have people transfer earlier than allowed than to lose money on training someone just for them to quit.

I think in OP’s situation they could approve a transfer anyway? About a month after I started I moved 30 minutes away and my SM told me she would approve my transfer (If I wanted to transfer, that is)

This post is adorable. No one will hate you. Be professional and turn in your two weeks and leave! It's that simple. The day after you leave no one will think twice about you. If they do, they be in your inbox. Life's to short to worry about something so trivial!

as someone else said you can also transfer if you wanted to! but nobody will hate you, starbucks has a lot of turn over. as long as you give notice and show up for all of your shifts (or get them covered lol) then no one will mind :) i usually write my resignation down on paper, staple it and leave it taped to the desk for my manager with her name on it, or email it. whatever’s easier for you!

2 weeks notice is reasonable. If people dislike you for circumstances beyond your control, cest la vie.

You start realizing that you don't owe sbux or your sm or the other partners shit and do what you gotta do baby that's how

Hello, I (name) will be giving my two week notice. My last day will be x. And have you and your leadership sign and have two copies .

Try for the transfer, right now the company is hemorrhaging partners that even though you’re less than 6 months, a store where you’re moving to may need people

I’m in a similar situation. I have to quit soon and will in total only be working at my Starbucks for about two months. Your manager etc, is not your friend. This is a transactional relationship, they’ll have someone to replace you very soon. It’s just a job, a means to an end. You are under no false emotional pretences. They don’t care about you, outside of you fulfilling a placement, and the one whose worrying the most and will stress the most about this is yourself. These are all just temporary people in your life, quit while knowing and embracing that, that they have served their purpose to you.

Yeah I totally get that. It’s more that I don’t want them to be cold to me for the two remaining weeks while working, or making me clean and take trashes out constantly. Just a weird fear of mine that they’ll make me do all the work no one else wants to do just cause I put my two weeks in, y’know?

As someone who has been here six years, I can say i completely don't care if someone is working for two more weeks or two more years. We'll just show up and do what we gotta do to get through the day.
I think a lot of people know there are lots of resignations and turnover right now. We had two people put in their two weeks and they haven't even been here that long but I don't think anyone feels a desire to punish them.
If anything I congratulate anyone who can escape this place alive. I'm still in school so I can't leave.
