I got yelled at for the first time by a typical Karen! And I inadvertently told the new girl that the job in general isn’t worth it 😂 (self.starbucksbaristas)

We got a new hire today. She has experience working at a Target Starbucks so she could handle herself pretty well, but today was our normal chaotic hellish shift.
So I’m not quite sure what happened- the new girl was trying to ring the Karen up for some really complicated drink. Karen went real fast, we can’t hear because of how loud it is in there, everyone is wearing masks and we’re standing behind plastic partitions.
I guess she had to repeat herself twice to the new girl when I got called over to ring her up. But I’ve only been there a few weeks, and it’s always so busy that I haven’t had a chance to learn the register. So Karen got so mad that she had to repeat herself to me 😂 she complained and made a little scene. It was like out of a movie.
I wanted to refuse service but I’m only there for a week and a half. I gave my two week notice last Friday! Yay!
When I got off my shift the new girl was taking her lunch. She asked me if it was always like that- so busy that there was trash overflowing the cans and milk and coffee spilled all over the floor: it’s an accident waiting to happen. There was no time to do anything except churn out drinks.
So I was all “yeah, this is a normal day. That’s why I’m leaving” and she was all shocked. She then asked if the tips were good. I told her how I’ve only gotten tips once, about $50. I also told her how I make $50 in tips a night working as a pizza driver.
She was all “so basically it’s not worth it?” And I was all “no.” I told her how I gave two weeks because everyone was so nice that I didn’t want to leave them in a lurch. Honestly though, if I could walk out and never look back I would.
I tried to stress how I’ve everyone is, but that we’re always so busy that there is no downtime to talk. We’re just go go go all day.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see if she stays.
I am so glad I am leaving
