I’m a 269**** who moved 1300 miles, took a year off, and went back to a new store. I hit my breaking point today and started sobbing in the shower when I got home. I’d forgotten what a good old fashioned Starbucks meltdown felt like and it sucks.
My anxiety meds have kicked in thankfully but this is a reminder to prioritize your mental health over your store. Especially for the green beans that read here. Do not let this company take away your sanity.
I have a day off tomorrow and I’m going to take care of myself and get back on track. Today sucked though.

I also hit a breaking point today. My heart goes out to you friend.
[deleted] [OP]18 points1y ago
Thank you! I hope you’re okay as well!!
anitasdoodles35 points1y ago
Get a “fuck your Frappuccino!” Tattoo in solidarity with me friend
[deleted] [OP]16 points1y ago
I’ve thought about it. Maybe if I ever quit Starbucks.
YesterdayGreedy195411 points1y ago
Can I change it to TikTok drink???
[deleted] [OP]7 points1y ago
Pink drinks are my worst night mare.
interyx10 points1y ago
How about a pink drink with vsccf and white mocha? I had to make two of those last week and I nearly threw up.
[deleted] [OP]8 points1y ago
Don’t forget the caramel ribbon crunch topping too
anitasdoodles7 points1y ago
Lol or secret menu 😂
Empathetic_Be4n2 points1y ago

I started following this sub to get a better idea of what it’s like to work at Starbucks. I’m a long time customer and I can be found at a Starbucks 2-3 times a day.
I just want to let you know and anyone else who needs to know how much I appreciate you all in general.
[deleted] [OP]14 points1y ago
You’re one of the good ones. We appreciate the customers that see the struggle.
potatopoisoning14 points1y ago
It’s 10:30pm. I’m just leaving my stores Clean Play. We closed at 7:30. I’ve been off for two days and the only other SSV we have is a total shit show. I spent the entire shift tonight + Clean Play fixing the store he effectively destroyed in 2 days despite our SMs brave efforts 😭
[deleted] [OP]7 points1y ago
I’m so sorry!
potatopoisoning7 points1y ago
It’s all good. It wasn’t so bad until this last month. Our SM has been running two stores because another SM in our district (and their ASM) were fired without notice (we don’t know what for, it was very sudden and very hush-hush). He was slowly working his way through the red tape of giving this other shift chances/feedback/more chances to improve and working up to corrective action but then that got thrown on his plate and he’s been stretched SO thin he’s barely been at our store because the other location is a total dumpster fire. I’m the Lead SSV (moving to ASM once they figure out who’s doing ADP classes and when, our whole district is a mess) so our SM has basically put me in charge of the store when he’s not there, only things I don’t handle are payroll and schedules. It’s been a month of cleaning up this crap-SSVs messes every shift I come in. I’ve had one day off/week the last 3 weeks, and thank gods for my amazing partners who hold everything down so I can do the cleanup and still get everything else done or I’d likely have strangled him by now.
[deleted] [OP]4 points1y ago
I don’t know how you do it. I picked up a bunch of extra hours last week and my boss scheduled me a week straight without a day off and I sat in the shower for an hour sobbing earlier and wanting to quit Starbucks all over again.
I hope your store works out. This company isn’t worth the amount of mental anguish we go through daily.
potatopoisoning4 points1y ago
Agreed. I love my SM, he’s a great guy and a really great manager. I’ve learned a lot from him since he’s been with us and I’m sad to see him go now that our new DM is forcing him to take over the other store (it’s bigger than ours, and has a lot of problems, so they want to put him - the more experienced SM - there and are sending us a recently promoted ASM 😬). I haven’t met her yet, but she’s going to be there tomorrow observing my shift and I really hope she’s there early enough to see what I’m being handed before I have to run cleanup again. That’s rough, a week straight, I feel you.
I’m sure I would have cracked long ago if I wasn’t such a stubborn SOB. I’m bound and determined to make SM so I can make a space (even if it’s just ONE store) where partners can feel like someone is on their side and maybe even find a little bit of the Starbucks that everyone is so nostalgic for, corporate be dammed.

I’m currently on a medical leave because of mental breakdowns so I feel for you.
[deleted] [OP]7 points1y ago
At this point I’m ready to just do DoorDash and instacart like the rest of my friends and drop down to super part time at Starbucks.
pixieuppercut4 points1y ago
I was planning on that too. There’s a lot of delivery services to try. I need to stay with Starbucks for school but I only need to have 20 hours a week.
[deleted] [OP]3 points1y ago
I’m ready to walk out and I’ve only been back for a few weeks. The customers have gotten worse since I’ve been back.
pixieuppercut3 points1y ago
Oh boy I’m so excited to come back /s We lost so many partners the last few months and I can’t blame them. Mental health > making a rich corporation richer. You gotta do what’s best for you.
Legal-Nebula34973 points1y ago
I asked a question in this sub and y'all were great. As a customer Starbucks is a great place to get coffee. That being said I know there are assholes as the best man st my wedding worked at Starbucks in college. I have heard horror stories. I do not know how y'all keep your composure. The baristas at my local, relatively new, Starbucks are amazing. They go out of their way to ensure your drink is the best all while portraying a happy attitude. Y'all are amazing. And I hope my drunk of choice isn't too complicated lol.
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
I’m sure you’re fine. Most drinks don’t bother me. It’s more the fact that I had a lot going on and it all combined into a full fledged mental breakdown.
You’re one of the good ones though! One of the reasons I stay, other than to protect the green beans, (new hires) is because some of the customers are fantastic.
jennalahuee2 points1y ago
It was a Thursday when I had a breakdown at work and had to go home, I came back to work on the Monday and i was fine until I walked into the back room and then I just bawled.. I dont know what happened but its a sucky feeling. I was frustrated I couldn't work but my brain just needed some time to chill and not think about anything
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
I’m so sorry. You’ll get through this! You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for and you’re gonna slay the rest of this week because you’re a magnificent badass of a human.
jennalahuee2 points1y ago
Aw thank you that's so sweet. I hope the rest of your week goes well, make sure to take some time for yourself and don't let Starbucks screw your mental health. You too are a magnificent badass of a human 🥰
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
I get to see my partner for the first time in a few days tomorrow so it should be a good day. Thank you 🥰🥰
Baristas have to support each other cause lord knows corporate won’t.
jennalahuee2 points1y ago
I get to see my boyfriend tomorrow as well, it helps get me through my week for sure.
Today was such a shitty day due to a big leak so our backroom was basically a lake so I'm just excited to get through tomorrow's shift and have 2 days off 😇
jennalahuee2 points1y ago
I hit a breaking point a few weeks ago and had to call someone to help me finish my close, took an extra few days to take care of my mental health before going back to work
[deleted] [OP]1 points1y ago
I’ve had such an awful brain day and I’m paranoid to go into work tomorrow but I’m gonna suck it up, drown myself in blonde espresso, and cry myself to sleep when I get home.
Empathetic_Be4n2 points1y ago
I work at a mini starbucks inside of a target and I too just had a horrible day. I was completely alone from 3:30-9:30pm and I had to close for 30min so I could take my break, all of that plus my espresso machine is broken again and we just completely ran out of venti cold cups 😅
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
No! I’m so sorry!!
Please make sure you’re taking care of yourself!
jbra132 points1y ago
Sending my love! I always credit getting hired at Starbucks for me taking care of my mental health. Up until then I was just miserably coping but starbies sent me over the edge. I’m thankful it pushed me to get healthy but also annoyed/outraged that the job is so toxic.
