I work at a very small store at a trainstation, no DT, just a few tables. It was just me and a green bean. She is great, but not to fast. It's a bit busy, and manager is on break. A taxidriver comes in and orders a simple C. There are like 10 Fraps before him, so I'll tell him it could take a while cause it's just 2 partners right now. He agrees and waits. Meanwhile, no customers in line, I barsupport for my greenbean. She's doing great, but there are still 2 Fraps to go. So, I make the cappuccino and put it back in the line. It's our policy to give the guests their drinks in the order they ordered (except if they order bc at the counter). Now the taxidriver sees his C and starts to flip out. He says I should be flexible and give him his drink. I don't want to put pressure on the green bean so I explain the policy to him, and ask him how he would feel if he ordered first and many people got their drinks before him. He ignores that and starts to scream to the green bean she should go faster. Then manager comes in and asks what's going on. She completely supports me (shes the GOAT) and says he could file a complaint if he wants to. She makes sure I and the green bean feel okay. I know it's against the 'always say yes', but when you start screaming, I just say: 'Sorry sir, just following our policy'.... What would you have done?

If the cap is already made I would give it to him…. In a typical store you have someone on cold bar, hot bar, dt bar , so drinks are going to come out at different times anyway….. and policy is to make it right …. He could be nicer but just make it easier on yourself if the 10 frap orders can’t understand that oh well

We are such a small store! We only have 2/3 partner deployment at some times...

So his drink was ready and you didn't just hand it to him? He overreacted but that's a nonsense policy.

It makes zero sense. Shouldn’t we be making sure customers get their drinks as soon as their ready instead of letting the die behind the counter? What was the point of even making the cappuccino before they were done with the fraps if they weren’t gonna hand it out anyway? I would be pissed as a customer if that happened to me…

Sometimes, no matter what you choose you're wrong. Especially if you are face to face with customers. What matters is that your entire team looked out for each other, and no one threw anyone under the bus.

That’s a weird policy - there’s no sense letting a hot drink go cold if it’s just sat there & all you need to do is hand it out? I can understand if you prioritise making the other drinks first but once it’s made, send it out. People with complicated frap orders are generally happier to wait, people order classic coffee are often in a rush/have an expectation of how long it will take to make. I’m sure you have some reason for that policy but I can understand his frustration and this is a time where I would follow your common sense over a policy that no Starbucks I know of follows.

I’m sorry but you’re 100% wrong in this. Your letting his drink die and wasting more time arguing with him instead of just handing him his drink that’s already made. The best policy would be to put drinks on the hand off as they’re made …
