Don't be nervous. I think the easiest/best way is to go in knowing exactly what you need to function at your best. Figure that out first...how many hours you can handle a week, what your class schedule might look like (don't forget to factor in study time), and what position you want to work. Your manager should meet you with the best she has to offer. If your manager is good at her job, she'll be supportive and accommodating. If she sucks and is spiteful, that's on her...not you. Explain that going back to school wasn't what you had planned when you got hired, but it's very important now and you would like to make it work. She may just not have the hours/schedule you need available- to which you can say, thanks so much for looking in to it. I'll need to put in my two weeks.
Focus on you, know what you want and don't be afraid to ask for what you need to thrive =success .
And always remember these very important things about the service industry: 1) you're not irreplaceable (i.e. they'll find someone else if need be and the weight of the store is not on your shoulders even though they might make it seem like it). 2) know your worth. They need you more than you need them right now 3) shit happens, and life changes. You didn't sign a 50 yr contract so don't feel guilty about evolving.
Rooting for you!
P.s. not sure if Kroger Starbucks has this as an option, but you can go to school for free(ish) through Starbucks ASU online at company stores
