Starbucks will most likely be way more rushed and busy than you’re used to. It’s very fun, but it’s feels very different to work here than it does at a nice little local coffee shop.

The #1 thing to remember is that the experience is entirely dependent on the location. I work in New York, so we make a reasonable wage, but even within my district there are some stores that I’ve subbed at that have been absolutely horrible and I’d never go back, and some that have been amazing and don’t even feel like work! I like my store. My managers and coworkers are supportive and even though it’s busy, we are organized and try to make sure no one is too stressed. Some stores are not like that though. I would do more research into the stores in your area so that you can sort of pick up on the vibe and decide if it’s something you want to be a part of. In general,
Pros:
Decent wage (depending on where you live- I make $15.50 with an expected raise soon)
Benefits available (health insurance, retirement, discounts, etc)
You usually can get as many hours as you want, not always strict about overtime (you can be a “borrowed” partner at other stores in the area. My district has a big group chat where we trade shifts. That’s how I get overtime most weeks)
The people you work with can be amazing!
Transfers are easy/possible, so if you move you basically automatically have a job

Cons:
Starbucks clientele can be rude/entitled and make up the most ridiculous drinks that can be annoying to make
Some stores are kind of toxic
It’s a corporation- so depending on where you are you may feel like just a number. My manager really goes out of his way to make us feel like we are valued and appreciated (at least by him, who cares about the CEO or whatever else), but this isn’t always the case

very different vibe vibe than local coffee shops (i’ve worked at both) but if you have good partners and a decent manager it can be rlly good!

thanks! i know several people at the one in a barnes and noble, but idk how I feel about working in the mall again

Keep in mind that Starbucks within Barnes and Noble/grocery stores are licensed stores, so if you work for one you would not be a Starbucks employee and you would not get the same benefits Starbucks offers corporate employees.

starbucks is very rushed and is usually more quantity over quality, usually i still try and put more focus on quality but it doesn’t always work out. if you like that kind of thing, go for it. usually the managers and ssvs make up for any stress and bad days you experience on the floor

Most people are moving in the opposite direction. You should know that working at Starbucks is a fast food job. There is emphasis on speed and quantity over quality, you will probably spend most of your time (especially when you first start) on cash register and heating up food rather than making coffee. I think finding another local coffee shop instead of Starbucks would be a better idea.

you dont have time for quality here. if youre worried you arent being appreciated at your current job, you definitely wont feel appreciated here. we arent baristas, we're fast food employees. id see if you can find another option.
