Shifts, I have a question for you. Is there a hierarchy between you and other shifts? (self.starbucksbaristas)

From my experience, I have noticed that there is often a shift supervisor that is usually the managers “go to”. I’ve worked at two stores, as a shift, and I saw that in both stores. I even noticed this in stores where I was a borrowed partner. Especially my first store, there was a shift supervisor who had worked for the company the longest, but was younger than all the other shifts. I know my manager put her “in charge” when he went away on vacation. Perhaps it is a combination of the manager putting so much trust in said shift, that it almost goes to their head. Not going to lie, I would feel annoyed by that shift at times, because I just felt like she was trying too hard and being a little bit of a kiss ass (even though she was very nice) — but I really just think it was because she was serious about stepping up in the company and made that clear, so my manager would let her take the reigns, and when she would overstep with me, I would just let her lol.

Not saying that is okay, because if you’re all titled as a shift, I think you should respect who’s floor it is, but maybe there is a similar dynamic in your store?

In my 2nd store, there was also a shift put in that position. She did not overstep much, however I wouldn’t have really minded, because she has worked for the company and been a shift yearsss longer than me so I just put a lot of faith in her that she knew better than myself, simply from experience. :)
