With the statement that was put out today, are shifts making 27% from 15? And baristas at 12-15? How does every one feel about it?

As near as I can tell, here's what's going to happen:
1) everyone will get a 5% raise. Tenured partners, which is 3+ years, will get 6%.
2) If that still leaves your pay rate under $12/hr (baristas) or $15.24/hr (SSVs), you will be brought up to that level.
3) I'm sure there will be other shenanigans to prevent 5-year partners from being paid the same as 1-year partners, because pay compression is bad for retention.
$15.24 is 27% more than $12, so that's what everyone should be brought to at a minimum.

The part I’m confused about is the starting for a lot of markets will be 15 according to the message. Does that mean shifts go 27% up to $19?

The way I understand it (and I could be wrong) is that shift pay is 27% above base pay for that area. So if the base pay is $15/hr for a barista then the base pay for a shift will be 27% above that.

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69.0. Congrats!
27 + 15 + 27 + = 69.0

"With this investment, the starting rate for baristas in all markets will be at least $12 per hour, with many markets at or above $15 per hour."
If your baristas make $15, the shifts will make $19. This will only happen in areas that are already making around $15/hr, like in California.

So I’m confused I’m a 6 year partner so I’d get a 6%% raise but maybe more? As a barista I mean.

The pay rates are all so different from city to city that they're trying to make a flat announcement for a large number of small changes. It's very confusing.
You will get 6% OR something above $12/hr, whichever is higher. All your green beans are gonna go up to $12, so you should make more than that as a long-term partner. Does that make sense?
rio8envy72 points1y ago
Kind of. I already make more than $12/hr so my guess is that I’ll get the 6%. Not much more though.

While I'm grateful for the raise I'm also wondering what price we will pay. Corporations don't like hits to their bottom lines..

They'll find a way to cut more hours.

I’m just a barista but I’m still happy about it. I went and got a second job (at my dream plant shop) last week that could only have me working very little hours for $15 an hour. A couple days later my manager told me about my pay raise and it made me happy that all the work I put in here is finally gonna start paying off (at least pay a little more)
