Still waiting on Starbucks to even mention the new CDC guidelines for wearing masks. When the CDC relaxed their guidelines, Starbucks immediately stopped requiring its customers to wear masks. I live in a state that is entirely red--high-level of transmission--according to the CDC's map, and I've got coworkers still not wearing masks and risking giving me the delta variant. Not to mention the tons of customers we get in our store without masks on and who hang out in the lobby and eat and drink.

The store managers in our district had a meeting yesterday and we will be required to wear masks again officially on Monday. Not sure if that is just my state. I traveled in California last week and all partners I saw were masked up.

Good news to hear. Two of my shift supervisors and one of my fellow baristas were not wearing masks yesterday and today, and my thought is, 'Have you guys heard the news?' I mean, one of those shift supervisors was very gung ho about public safety when Starbucks stopped requiring customers to wear masks. I'm not in our store's group chat, so I can't post the news there, but I'll tell one of my other shift supervisors to do it if no one has yet.

It depends on where you go in California. Los Angeles county has a mask mandate where one has to be worn indoors but not all of California is enforcing this.

Ah i was wondering why my SM said there was info that needed to be discussed.
Ascendingvortex28 points1y ago
They just need to require vaccinations already or offer a separation package at this point. It's exhausting.
cryingoverspiltmiIk14 points1y ago
The CDC guidelines are now recommending again that everyone, included people who are vaccinated, wears a mask indoors. That applies in any county with “substantial” or “high” community transmission (which is like 70 percent of the U.S.)
So requiring that partners get vaccinated wouldn’t really change anything here.
Ascendingvortex10 points1y ago
If we had a much higher vaccination rate at this point, which there is no excuse not to, we would never be in this situation. Employers are going to be tired of large swaths of employees being out of work for a long period, plus employers are obligated to create a safe working environment for everyone.
I'm fully expecting more and more companies to require vaccinations within the next month.

Because the vaccine was very effective at preventing infections of the previous variants. We are only seeing the Delta variant breakthrough infection immunity (although the vaccine is still effective at preventing serious illness). The Delta variant may very well not have arisen if people had gotten vaccinated when they were able to.

It would help to bring those substantial and high transmission rates down.

99.5% of people who die from covid are unvaccinated while 97% who are hospitalized are also unvaccinated. The vaccination doesn’t 100% stop you from getting the disease (neither does the flu vaccine) but your case will be less severe. It’s also been shown that if you are vaccinated, you do not have high transmission rates while tests for the delta variant are still pending. The vaccine isn’t a miracle, it’s a normal vaccine, and it 100% is significantly better than not getting vaccinated and then going out with no precautions. The mask mandate is coming back because of unvaccinated people.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]5 points1y ago
Right?!?! There's a really stupid guy I work with who caught COVID in the recent past and thinks he's now immune to it and therefore doesn't need to vaccinate. He just traveled to a water park. Totally safe thing to do, buddy. Look, if you don't want to vaccinate, first of all, screw you, and second of all, working at a Starbucks is not the right kind of job for you. Way too close of contact with way too many people and handling of people's food and beverages.

Our SM just informed us all that starting today Sbux is requiring all partners to wear facial coverings.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]3 points1y ago
Yay! Also, I like your username

thank you! i like your too!!

In my district, partners have to start wearing them again by the 5th. It won’t change much since half of us are already vaccinated and still wear masks. We need to close cafes again tho and require customers to wear masks again. Doubt they’ll do that tho.
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]2 points1y ago
I totally agree. We're back to square one, and making customers go through the drive-thru is the best option. I also doubt Starbucks will do that. So far, I've seen two partners, two shift supervisors, and my store manager not wearing a mask at work.
Ashleybux8 points1y ago
My SM is on zoom call now about mask requirements. Starting Monday, all customers and partners required in our district.

luckyyy i hope this happens to my store

Partners have to be all wearing masks again by 8/5 per Starbucks corporate
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]1 points1y ago
Good news! Thank you for sharing!
ProfessionalRock79405 points1y ago
Starting Thursday in my district we have to wear masks again. But NH has a decent vacc rate. We can't make customers wear them though. Edited to add that my SM had a conference call 5 hours ago about it
philosopher_cat_lady [OP]2 points1y ago
Really pisses me off that Starbucks is willing to let its partners catch a brand new, extremely contagious virus that makes you as sick as a terrible flu does in order not to bother or inconvenience their precious customers

No one's said anything about us having to wear masks again, at least at our store
