I know people have been quitting in droves, so I was wondering if anyone might share their horror stories (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TheycallmeV_
So I recently made a video on my experiences at Starbucks ($1) and I don't think I've gotten even close to the worst of it. I'd like to hear REAL bad stories if anyone is willing to share. (And if you're extra kind please mention that you'd give me permission to use your comment is a possible future video <3)

i still work here cause i need the money to support my family and everything, but my current SM basically forced one of my SSVs (who’s been with the bux for like 15 years) to continue working after she had been told by her doctor that there were calcium deposits in her rotator cuff and she could not do anything except rest. that entire shift she was working with one functioning arm and the other in a sling. it was so upsetting watching her cry and having to console her while i was on my lunch.

also, she refuses to give the afternoon crew any more staffing because we continue to get out late (aka past 9:30 for us), which apparently shows that we can’t do our job. but not having appropriate staffing makes the problem she’s trying to address more prevalent. make it make sense. 😐

Answer: refuse to leave any later than on time :)

we had started doing that at some point, though i dunno if we’ve continued since i’ve been on a break from work. hopefully we’ve been doing that, i’m not getting write ups LMFAO

The working while injured thing is not up to the sm. Did that partner not go through sedgwick? She would've had to contact sedgwick and take a leave of absence. And the sm wouldn't have been able to "force" her to work.

Right when COVID started, about two weeks into our store being back open to the public, our drains got clogged with literal TP and 💩 and we had to close. Did we get the COVID deep clean we were supposed to get? Take a wild guess. We just stopped it with towels and called it day. We reopened an hour later.

My old SM (I quit a week ago) was intentionally scheduling partners less than 20 hours when they specified that they were only supposed to be part time for the benefits. One of them actually filed a complaint against her and corporate is now paying her insurance until October.

I was continually scheduled to close, which we all know is very cleaning task oriented. When sanitizing high touch areas got introduced, I was breaking out from my eczema so bad from the detergent ONTOP of cleaning and closing, that I had to go to the dermatologist. It covered 40% of my body, and I actually got tested positive for an internal staph infection that kept breaking me out. I almost thought I got sepsis. I got moved to mornings for two months tops before another partner quit, and I got moved back to nights.

I quit for a lot of reasons after literally a month working there but the straw that broke the camels back was being told I had to ask permission to clock out at my out time. I was lucky became the bitch- I mean shift supervisor *let* me clock out

i mean you should tell someone instead of just leaving..it’s rude to just walk off in the middle of something like that even if you’re scheduled off. maybe i’m not getting what you said but idk

I'm remembering the first shift I ever led, this girl in DTW goes "I'm off at 3" (it was 2:59) and with a car actively waiting for their ready order just unassigned her till and gathered her bits and bobs from the counter. I asked her to hand out the order and she rolled her eyes, jumped out the window, and as far as I understood just quit.

Like your replacement was washing his hands. Chill. Don't screw over your coworkers, we in the same boat 😭

WHAT? That’s crazy that some people are so rude like that, i always ask if everyone is okay before i go to see if they need anything and i try to do anything i can to help in my last 10-15 minutes so they’re good to go after my shift ends 😭

“hey im off, see you guys” vs. “can i please clock out” are two different things. the latter implies that you aren’t allowed to leave at your scheduled time, as if your manager can tell you to stay late and you must abide. you don’t need permission to leave when you’re scheduled to leave lol

i don’t think i worded what i said right because that’s not what i’m trying to say :/ maybe i misunderstood the original comment but i took it as she didn’t like telling them she was off/going to go or something because she was wanting to just clock out and go. i know some people who actually do that and don’t at least say “hey i’m off now, are you guys okay?” or something like that.

I would always tell them when it was time to form me to head out, usually I would tell them 15 minutes before it was time for me to go, and I was known for staying over on weekends, just not weekdays because I had a class to get to. It’s the verbiage let that bothers me, I’m a grown woman, you aren’t gonna let me do jack shit

no worries !! i think OP meant that they had to ask permission before being allowed to leave, not that they didn’t like telling people they were leaving. just leaving without telling anyone is definitely rude and hurts the team but i don’t think that’s what OP meant. sorry if i misunderstood !!
