I Don’t Need Attitude from My Bosses Too (tall rant) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by linipanini
I threw my back out a couple of days ago and it’s escalated to the point of it becoming an irritated disk and me potentially needing an MRI on it next week. I just brought my doctor’s note in to my ASM (literally the first thing I did after my appointment), which says I’m out for a week. I told her and apologized profusely, and she just looked at me and said “A WEEK??” And then took my doctor’s note and walked away mumbling. I completely understand being frustrated, but please give me 10 seconds of empathy to understand that my “progress” today was being able to take 3 steps on my own without help. I didn’t choose to throw out my back for fun, just to get time off work. In the past I’ve only ever called out when a migraine is bad enough that I can’t drive safely. I try to be a good barista and give everything I have to every shift, so I guess it just hurts to feel so small when I’ve done the best I can at this job.
Anyways, tall rant over.

Once heard an ASM shit talking an SSV whose grandfather had died, for "calling in sad". It was the day after the funeral. Do people think before they fucking talk?

Yeah that’s really not cool. It’s like they live in their own little comfort bubble where they become callous to other people’s life circumstances. I honestly really liked/like this ASM too so it just bums me out that when it really comes down to it that she won’t put herself in my shoes and think about how overwhelmed and terrified I must feel about such a painful back injury at 26…and remind herself that this is a real injury happening to a real person that works her ass off for the siren, who obviously doesn’t give a shit.

I don't know if this will comfort you at all, but know that it has nothing to do with you. She likely has so much pressure on her, and when you're an ASM trying to move up it feels like Starbucks is the Most Important Thing. She's being selfish but because she has been tricked into being selfish by company brainwashing.

I'm sorry that you're in pain and that she totally ignored it :( try to remember that you deserve time to heal and recover.

Trying so much yes, when it's sad cause not showing empathy for fellow partners is actually needed to just be a good batista, definitely a shift, so of course an ASM would need that. This person sounds like they won't be moving up.
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I really hope it isn't long term damage and you have a speedy safe recovery.

Thank you guys so much for giving me perspective, this all makes a lot of sense. It definitely doesn’t take away that feeling of being small, but it gives me empathy for where she is coming from. I am working really hard on my healing because this happened to my mom in her 20s and she didn’t work on it and it still plagues her to this day!

Hey hang in there buddy! I worked at Starbucks and delt with some of the most selfish, highschoolish bullshit of my life and I spend two years to many around these people.

Your number one and should focus only on getting through this as best you can. Forget about em!
