Howdy, I've only been working at the bucks for about 3 weeks now. I am very overwhelmed on bar, I'm good and comfy on till (previous customer service experience) and cs. Yesterday my manager threw me on bar alone, I have maybe been on bar twice at my time here and each time I had someone with me and it was slow. This is during a rush...I have no idea what I'm doing. After my shift she "connected with me" and said that's how she was taught, just thrown on bar and learned from her mistakes. Ok fair, but I'm freaking out and only lasted like 15 minutes before she pulled me off and put on cs. I have pretty bad anxiety which I'm on medication for and now I'm rethinking my entire job choice. I'm also a returning student in the fall and the idea of having these crazy early mornings and then trying to study after my shift when I'm dead on my feet is freaking out. I've also got quite a few issues going on in my personal life at the moment. Just overthinking and scared about my future at this job if I even make it a month.

They should have not put you on bar by yourself, especially during a rush. That is unnecessary stress on not just you but also everyone on the floor. It ruins everyone’s floor.
I’m a SSV and I would’ve just put you when we are slow. You should talk to your SM and if they’re not willing to help you then you don’t need to be in that environment.

Ridiculous that we are expected to “solo” at all. This company has lost its original “mission”. Customers are no longer their priority. So sad. I’m a long timer at this coffee co and love my customers but get in trouble for connecting with them for more than 20 seconds. How do I tell the precious customer to move along when they are sharing their heart with me regarding their struggles with cancer? Can’t do it!!

I find it interesting if not significant that 85% of my coworkers deal with anxiety and ADD and are on medication for those. Either the bux is messing with our mental health or the bux attracts those of us with those “issues”

My anxiety causes insomnia therefore I drink lots of coffee...ergo I got a job at a coffee shop where caffeine can make anxiety worse...it's a terrible cycle lmao

I can totally relate.
I was there about 3 weeks and I had to resign. Just the early shifts that were slammed from the moment we got there were too much.
I’m going to school for a full day each weekend, so I only got a half day to myself (I work a night job) it was just too much.
Maybe if it had been at a more mellow Starbucks but the one I was at left me sweaty and drained at the end of each shift.
I was sorry to leave my boss and coworker but not the job, you know?
Just do your best as long as you can. There’s no shame in stepping down.

I can understand since I was thrown onto bar with no help at 2 weeks and I was overwhelmed but I will say I learned very quickly. For that reason I don’t put anyone through the same situation that I had to deal with and slowly let them grow on bar before throwing them in the deep end. I’d say talk to your shifts or manager and try to communicate with them how it makes you stress way too much
