I can’t afford to work. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Butter-bean0729
So basically I’m a barista and I make $10/hour and I usually get scheduled 20 or less hours and I pick up the rest. I have never worked over 30 hours in the 7 months I’ve been at Sbux (even when I try to pick up shifts/ purposely stay late)
At this point I can’t afford to work at Starbucks. The only reason I’m staying is bc in eligible for insurance in a few months and the pay increase in October. But now I have to work a second job to even afford to pay my bills and I hate it. I like working at Starbucks but for some reason the hours just aren’t there at my store.

I really wish Starbucks store managers would make it clear that this is just a part time job. I think sometimes they lead people to believe it's super easy to get 30-40 hours just to hire them and then they put most partners in the 20-25 hours/week situation. Sure, it's enough to qualify for benefits, but most people can't live on it. They need to just be straight up with the fact that it's really only part time.

Yeah I specifically told my manager while I’m not in school I want 30-40 hours and she said that I could have it. But unfortunately that was not the case.

before you quit, we are about to get a bunch of raises. my store got a .50 raise a month ago, last week it was announced as a store we get a 10% raise and in a starbucks update for people hired before july there is a 5% raise.

Yeah I know that in October we are getting raised to $12/hour Atleast in my state. I’m staying for now I just have to work another job and work myself to death. But got bills to pay so oh well

In the same boat! I mean, my store sucks and I personally don’t like nor care about the job. This job is costing me money.

My boyfriend and I are just planning to move in together and he started saying we should save up and I cut him off and told him I can’t even afford to live right now so saving up is out of the question.

My manager sucks, the shifts suck, the other partners suck, the customers suck, the hours suck, the pay sucks, and the job sucks. So it’s really not a loss to me. It’s unfortunate for you, though. Especially shitty since you were told you could get 40 hours. Best of luck to you!

you could always try transferring stores/asking partners at other stores what their needs are for hours! if you scope out a store that has partners saying “we need more people/always have people giving shifts away/etc” then it might be worth looking into a transfer. good luck o7

If I didn't know better, I could believe that I wrote this. We are not paid enough.
