Nervous about open-enrollment. How much do you pay for insurance? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cinnamonmarigold
I (290 shift) know there’s 1,000 factors to somebody’s health insurance, but I don’t have much wiggle room in my budget, and I’m nervous that enrolling for Starbucks health will not be worth it.

What’s your experience?

For me it's worth it just for my meds alone.

Without my insurance, ONE of my meds costs $1k+/month. With insurance, its $12 month.

I pay $60/month for my insurance for health, vision, and dental.

I was paying for a higher tier but the lady I spoke with on the phone regarding enrollment was super nice and broke everything down for me. We came to the conclusion that it would be beneficial for me to bump down and do the middle tier. She was very helpful.

SIXTY???? what plan did you do wtf 😳 i’m getting my benefits soon and need a good plan for med costs and doctor visits copays

I'm on Kaiser Silver. When I re enrolled in October, it bumped me up to about $80 a month but that's still better than what I would need to pay for in meds alone. Call the benefits hot line. They've been a great help for me. :)

I pay $30 a paycheck for health insurance. However because I do a lower tier plan I put into an HSA so I pay $70 a paycheck, but that’s totally optional. My bronze plan covers all my preventative care, and I have silver for dental which covers my cleanings and will cover majority of my payment when I get my wisdom teeth out. Depending on what you need, you can easily pay as little as $19 a paycheck.

for my health, vision, and dental, i pay $52 in premiums every check. i use the silver health plan (premera), silver dental plan (united), and gold vision plan (united). i’m the only person on my insurance too. good luck!

Be careful with the bronze plans, you have to pay full price until you meet that $2000+ deductible. we are getting a raise October 4th so maybe that can help.

The “raise” is an extra maybe 30$ a paycheck, which will most likely go to taxes.

There's a number you can call on the website that can help you figure out what's covered and what's best for you. For me I wanted to keep the HSA so I opted for a bronze plus. This time I'm switching from united to blue cross because literally that name just covers so much more than united. And that's $19 a paycheck, and I bumped up my head so now it's $30 for that, and hopefully me paying for dental will motivate me to go back ($8)

My husband and I are both type one diabetics. So that's $$$$$$$. Uninsured - 1 vial if insulin costs (at last check in 2016) about $345. My husband and I combined need 15 vials every 3 months to live. With insurance we're paying about $60 per every 3 months for all of the insulin. Thats pharmacy ALONE. Dont get me started on doctors, dental and eyes!

I pay right now $320 out of every paycheck for the UnitedHealth Care Silver plan. I think its worth it for me and my husband. We both have chronic diseases that will never go away and we have to be careful of everything we do. I am working for the insurance and he makes the money we use for bills and other living expenses.

Don't know if that helps you or not but I also agree be careful with the lower teir plans

I have Silver level care for medical. One of my prescriptions is over $1000 a month but with insurance it’s free. Same for my spouse. I pay ~$260 for medical, $32 for dental and ~$14 for vision. This covers me, my spouse, and our child.

There are so many factors… is it just you partner or kids ect, do you have health concerns and do you visit doctors often, I have the silver plan for my husband and I (we are in the US) and it helped us sooo much this past year. he had a medical emergency that would have cost us probably 15,000 not including all of the tests and follow up visits. It was a freak kind of thing that you can’t plan for, in that sense it saved us significantly we still owed about 2,000 but that’s way more manageable on a payment plan than the alternative. If it’s just you on the plan the cost is soooo much lower. My cost is 45 per pay check his is 155. I hear kids are reasonably priced too. The bronze plans are pretty much if you are young don’t ever go to the doctor and have something crazy happen to you it will help cover your unexpected stuff. I’ve been on Starbucks insurance for 10 years almost and it has gotten worse but the whole us health care system has gotten worse in that time and costa are higher than ever now so it’s all relative.
