Not all corporate stores are large. Depending on your area, you might be able to find small stores or even drive-through only stores (which are basically the size of a shipping container). Is there any particular reason why the size of the store matters?

If you would like to work at a licensed store you would need to be rehired by whichever company your store is located in. Meaning, you would most likely have to interview and fill out new hire paperwork all over again. You also would probably need to be retrained a bit because not all licensed stores are exactly like corporate Starbucks. Also keep in mind that many licensed stores have limited staffing, meaning it would most likely be just you and one other person most of the time. Usually the only other person you work with is a supervisor so you would typically be by yourself out front most of the shift, taking orders and making drinks. This has been my experience so far.

You also have to consider that licensed stores will not have all the benefits of working corporate such as free food/drinks, college, bean stock, 401K, etc. They will probably have different benefits but it won’t be the same.

Personally, I would recommend just staying corporate since you have the choice. But ultimately it’s up to you. Just make sure to carefully consider the differences. If you have any questions definitely reach out! I switched from corporate to franchise earlier this month so I’m happy to help

First, congrats on college! Super excited for you! As a college student myself I totally see what you’re saying. I’ve worked at both corporate and licensed stores and I think you can have a great experience at both. However, I do suggest first looking for a smaller corporate store near you.

Like the other comments said, you’d have to be rehired by a totally new company with the licensed store, meaning different wage, different benefits, etc (no Spotify premium 😢). You’d also most likely have to be trained to learn the customer service standards of that company (mine was a local grocery store, about two days of computer training).

I work at a smaller corporate store while in college right now and love it. They have been super flexible with my school schedule and it’s really easy to transfer back and forth between stores in my hometown and college town. Not all stores will be like mine, but I say give corporate a try first if you can then look into licensed stores.

Good luck again! And have so much fun in college!

I would try to find a smaller store in your area instead. Theres one in my town thats cafe only and ive been their during their “rushes” and its like. 10 customers tops? I would imagine transferring within the company you already work for would be a lot easier than applying and reinterveiwing for another company. If youre really set on leaving corporate you could also try to find smaller local coffee shops in your area
