Can you work at two locations?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by okaybutall
I’ve been working at a kiosk in a Kroger store for a bit, and just got a phone call offering me a shift lead position at a corporate location.
I want to do both because I LOVE my current coworkers, but also there’s not enough hours to go around. I’m not sure if it would be considered a conflict of interest or some other flavor of no-no, but I think it would be really cool to be able to do both jobs.
Does anybody know if that’s allowed? (thanks in advance)

Yeah you can take shifts at another location

Thank you! I was just hesitant about it because I’ve had jobs in the past where I had to quit the other one due to them being considered “conflicting”. Wasn’t sure if it applied here.

Yeah I got my hours cut at my store so I just called the surrounding stores and told them to call me if they need coverage so I can finally get full time

Yes. I had a coworker who was a barista at target and a supervisor as a cooperate location. You don’t work for starbucks while at the Kroger location you work for Kroger, so technically yes :)

Nah I know coworkers who switch between our corporate and mall locations

Mall locations are corporate.... licensed stores are only in grocery stores and such

What’s the actual difference between licensed and corporate?

Corporate stores are official Starbucks locations, licensed stores are run by other companies (Kroger, Target, etc) who pay for a license to use the Starbucks brand and recipes in their stores.

Ah ok then I wouldn’t know sorry about that

I was told I can pick up shifts at any store in my state as long as I consult my store manager about it in advance, so I’m guessing yes.

I believe it's only a conflict of interest when you work for another coffee shop, but because both are stdbucks and on different payrolls as long as you can handle 30ish hours at corporate and what kroger gives you without it being a problem to your ssv role it should be fine.

I have a partner working with me in a corporate store who recently took a second job in a Tarbucks. Seems to be no problem for them

Kroger defines it as a conflict of interest (source: took a job as a corporate barista while working at Kroger) BUT “what they don’t know won’t hurt them” was the advice I received from a much more tenured Kroger employee when I was considering coming to my current location and returning to corporate.
10/10, best decision I ever made. You can use your abundance of free time at the kiosk to study on recipes, standards, and updates for corporate while reaping the benefits of both.
EDIT: I actually ended up liking the benefits and camaraderie at corporate so much more that I left Kroger for more hours at corporate. I’d say go for it, but read lightly if you intend to keep the kiosk position.

That’s actually a really good insight. I’m disappointed to hear that Kroger feels that way considering I don’t want to be fired if they find out. I just wanted to be excited about both jobs, ya know?

It would be interesting to know. I wonder if you would have to get recertified because it's a licensed location? I work in a grocery store and so am technically considered their employee and I know that we are not allowed to have another job at another grocery store that's considered a competitor. I wonder if it's the same that way even though it's starbucks.

I don’t have to get recertified actually. I talked to my manager about that part today because I was really confused, but half of my coworkers weren’t even trained at my location. But yeah, they’d have to train me pretty much just on where they keep everything, and that’s about it. All of the drinks and everything are identical beyond that (as far as I’m aware).
My conflicting jobs were also grocery stores, so that’s what I was feeling.

I’m pretty sure that you can take shifts at other corporate stores if you are a corporate partner. But you can’t work at a LS and a corporate store at the same time. I may be wrong. But I think that’s the gist
