Dress code policy on skirts and dresses (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by E-hugs519
I prefer wearing skirts and dresses any chance I get and thought i had a lot of options but someone at my store mentioned my black and white striped skirt as being out of dress code which has got me freaked out. I triple checked the section in the look book about bottoms and they said nothing about patterns, only that they need to follow the color scheme. So I'm really confused.

The look book says "wear pants, shorts, skirts, or dresses in black, gray, navy, brown, and khaki." That's all it says. Help.

You said it yourself in the look book quote “…black, gray, navy, brown and khaki.” No mention of white. Although white is allowed for TOPS. Which is probably why you were told you were out of dress code.

They didnt say for color, they said it was for pattern. I didnt even think of the color until now. What about dresses then? I have black and white striped dresses?

White is not included in dress code for any bottoms, only tops. But it’s doubtful a store manager or shift will ever actually tell you off for black AND white and send you home to change. Yeah, won’t happen. Don’t worry too much. My store still wears blue jeans

Jeans are in code still. They just have to be dark wash.
lostpuppy1216 2 points 1y ago
really ? i was told mine have to be light or mid wash jeans

It does mention patterns must be small and not take away from the apron. Maybe they thought the pattern looked “busy”? If it wasn’t an SSV or SM/ASM/DM saying something I wouldn’t worry too much and you can always clarify with one of those people if you’re worried.

tbh if it wasn't a shift or a manager, don't even worry about it lol

Thanks love. I'm going to look at it the way I look at most things at sbux: right until proven wrong and told off by the SM
the_lady_flame 7 points 1y ago
yes, a really good outlook!!
GreyGreyson 3 points 1y ago
Tbh sometimes even then, my sm never actually knows what dress code is so she’ll pick who she yells at based on who she likes

Bottoms can’t be patterned, though that policy isn’t super strict at most stores. Check with your sm and phrase it “hey, I love this skirt- is it okay for dress code?” I’ve never had issues with approaching it that way

Only tops can have patterns. Bottoms can not. You’re looking at the old dress code. But if you worked at my store I would let you wear it

Do you have a link to the new one? This was the only one I could find.

That's funny, I wonder why you can't wear pins in Quebec.
medusas-garden 5 points 1y ago
Yeah my SM has literally complimented me for my out of dress code patterned skirts so unless your store is big on dress code or it’s clearly out of dress code/in appropriate etc most people are fine tbh
navkabar 3 points 1y ago
any pattern can be out of dress code if it's too "loud" - maybe that's why
Muhsmolbean 2 points 1y ago
I know some store managers are more lax on dress code, but what the sheet says at my store is that all bottoms must be a solid color and no patterns
somewheredaydreaming 2 points 1y ago
Bottoms must be solid in color of your SM is strict about policy
Dis_Nothus 2 points 1y ago
I’m pretty sure that would still be in dress code from what I understand
Blue-Jay27 1 points 1y ago
The dress code I was given says that bottoms must be a solid color, and even tops are only allowed in muted patterns
riilss 1 points 1y ago
I wear a stripped black and white dress with smaller stripes. Is it a length issue?
matchababyy 1 points 1y ago
i may be wrong but i'm pretty sure the dress code for bottoms is that is must be a solid color

my store manager wears dresses all the time, bottoms are just technically not supposed to have white on them
