I read too many Coffee AU fics as a teen and actually thought Starbucks would be a quaint and quirky job. RIP(i.redd.it)

fast food zoo. where all the customers pile up and watch you make 5 different drinks in under 30 seconds because your district manager is looking at your drive times. you are the animal on exhibit when you work at starbucks- just a pawn they use to profit off of

District manager - Degenerate manager. Let’s call things as they are

I just started a week ago and feel extremely lucky. I’ve worked primarily in fast food/food service and it seems like most people’s starbucks work experience is extremely dependent on their boss and their coworkers. So far my boss has been exceptionally kind and understanding and all my coworkers have been extremely nice to me. It’s totally fast food and corporate is just surface level nice to lure people in but I’m just grateful that so far the people I work with are extremely kind. I’m sure I’ll get more jaded over time but I’m sorry that a lot of people have had a miserable experience.
Also FYI never work at CFA, the labor is unbelievably soul crushing and management has been awful at every location I’ve worked at.

In Starbucks' case, some corporate stuff is alright. For example, they mail us graphic designed pamphlets to help us pick out healthcare. They seem to genuinely care that we can see and our teeth arent rotting out. Also they preach acceptance of each others religion, sexual orientation, etc. I know people who work for a big name pizza chain and it is not like that at all.

I have to agree to this. I'm trans and this is the only job I've had thats been nothing but accommodating and provides a comfortable and welcoming space to be myself. During my interview I brought up my identity (I'm pre everything) and the manager would correct herself on my pronouns as well as assure me she'd make sure others were accommodating as well. This isn't the first corporation I've worked for thats told me my identity is valid, but its the only one I've worked for that strives to make sure I'm comfortable at work.
Ofc, ymmv. I've heard of other stores having transphobic managers/DMs. But im really happy i got the store and district I did.
TrentaGreenBean [OP]9 points1y ago
That's so great to hear My manager and the DM are really kind and accommodating to me, but its still the drive thru aspect as well as everything mostly being premade as well as the customers that get me. The vibe from my coworkers is mostly chill too!

Let’s be clear here: a lot of the negativity on this sub comes from teenagers who’ve never had any other job in their life.
Starbucks is (mostly) great compared to (most of) the other jobs I’ve had in my life.
They’ll learn that eventually. For now, they’ll just come to Reddit and circle jerk themselves off about how it’s the worst soul sucking corporate hellhole on the planet.

Working for a smaller coffee shop is probably closer to au fic than starbucks.

You mean your sbux doesn’t have a mysterious regular from the flower shop next door?
rudebii5 points1y ago
Not always. The bux was still as close to a cafe concept as a chain could be. The company was focused on espresso and gourmet beans at one time.
There was no app, no rewards, no hot foods, no drive thrus, limited and espresso-focused menu, and every shot was freshly ground, hand dosed, tamped and timed to order.
The market for that kind of thing is limited and the one with bullshit desserts-in-a-cup is more lucrative.

Fast food except you work every position and get paid less!
