Hi everyone! So, I was informed that the change for our tips are brought to coinstar…. Is that even legal? they’re essentially taking money away from us unless i’m missing more information??

Not even close to accurate. I do tips and we cash rolls out from the change order. None of the change goes to coinstar.

every store is different. your experience is not universal. i know of a few stores in my district who use coinstar. it’s messed up.

I was not aware that was a thing

Damn so maybe I need to speak to a DM about this because…… this seems wrong

Office Depot has cheap coin rollers and papers so that full rolls can be exchanged into the safe. It’s part of our store manager orderable office supplies that you should have on hand. Note; we are once again faced with a mint shortage, so we shouldn’t be offloading change for now because eventually, the bank won’t be able to send you quarters or dimes…

Seems like lazy more than anything. I would object to this, Coinstar doesn’t deserve 11.9% of your tip change!

We have not used coin star for years.

We did this at the first store I worked at. Mostly because nobody wanted to roll the coins. Another store had a coin roller.
The store I'm at now, we trade the coins out throughout the day and only put bills in the tip bags. This only works well for us because we're a small store so there are only a couple people who need to be on board to make it work.
