submitted by Fresh_Appearance7000
im currently a barista and so is one of my roommates, we are at two diff stores. anyway, she was in a bike accident in june and has been on leave to recover. she keeps saying the cup fund is going to give her money for rent, but the rent has to be late and wont cover more than $1000. my other roommates and i are a little skeptical about everything she is telling us, because i remember talking to my manager about the cup fund when i first started, but that was few years ago, and he said the cup fund has helped him out before and they helped with more than $1000. have any of you dealt with the cup fund or know any resources to look deeper into this i would love to hear your input! i looked at the partner hub and i havent found anything to really answer my questions.

I don’t know how much they used to help with, but I do know that now, $1000 is the most they will help with. I don’t think your rent has to be late in order to apply. It does take some time.. if you’re eligible (if you have any write ups or anything like that you aren’t), you have to apply and supply all the documents and stuff they need, your manager has to send in a letter of recommendation etc.. Its a process, so I would get started as soon as possible. You can call 1 (888) 728-9411 hit option 3, say “cup fund” and ask about cup fund eligibility

I don’t think it’ll cover medical expenses. It might cover rent since she can’t work. What type of leave is she on? If she’s on medical leave she should still be getting paid and not need to use the cup fund. If she’s not on medical leave tell her to talk to Sedgwick about that because that definitely qualifies for that. The cup fund is supposed to be a last resort so I don’t know if they’ll approve funds for her if she’s eligible for medical leave but hasn’t taken it.

I think short term disability is the other option 2/3 pay up to 6 months.
