Working at Starbucks has made my BED worse(self.starbucksbaristas)

\*\*TW for talk of eating disorder.\*\*
I've always struggled with BED but Starbucks and our free drink/food policy have worsened it. For those who don't know, BED is Binge Eating Disorder. I quite literally have almost no control over what I eat and how much of it I eat. And being able to get a whole ass free drink daily has not helped this whatsoever. The other day I tried on a zip-up skirt after a couple of months of not trying it and it wouldn't zip all the way (in which I normally could) and then tried another which also wouldn't zip up. I've already put in my two weeks (unrelated) so thank god I won't get free stuff anymore but god this has made me feel awful about myself. Losing weight is also extremely hard for me so this is gonna be hard to work off.

That’s really messed up and you should report them. That’s considered workplace harassment especially since you told them you are uncomfortable with it :(

I don't have an eating disorder but I gained 10lbs after working at Starbucks. I think it happens to most people aside from the unicorns who can stay slim no matter what they eat.

I feel less bad when I know our extra food is trying to go to the food share. I have been working on having an appetite consistently.

Oh yes, me too. I’ve gained about 10 pounds since I started. I feel terrible. I’ve been able to, somewhat completely, cut out all drinks and only have water, but the pastries are what get me. Sometimes the breakfast sandwiches like the sausage or impossible, but I can usually stay away from those.

i am addicted to the sugary stuff in this store, but i personally find that if i go a few days forcing myself to eat less sugar, it becomes less appealing and other food starts to taste better (plain coffee with altmilk and teas seem to have more flavor) \[similar to my experience trying to go vegan, i can taste eggy/cheesy tastes in things like the pastries a lot more when im not eating eggs and cheese often\].
if i can be so forward as to suggest ideas, r/intermittentfasting and r/fasting might be options. there are such arguments that "feast and famine" is a more natural way humans evolved to eat. similar to r/omad r/omadisplenty .
its more difficult, but trying to reduce the amount of sugar instead of cutting it completely, like still wanting the seasonal drinks but getting way less pumps of the syrups, to still get the flavor.
