No more taking or switching shifts (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Seaweedgreedy
So someone in my work gc said that our manager had a meeting with all the shifts and told them to let everyone know that taking/swapping shifts with each other isn’t allowed anymore?? (Unless it’s an emergency) I’m shocked bc some of us NEED to do that when she decided to not give us enough hours.😐 Is she allowed to do this? If not what can I do as a barista to combat this?

I think she can technically require manager approval for any shift swaps - maybe have a sit down with her and ask for details and her reasons?

Well she already requires both people let her know ASAP. She literally said “only if it’s an EXTREME emergency.” Like that seems a little unfair and is going to cause a lot of problems.

Honestly it sounds like she’s gonna have a lot more call outs
FfierceLaw 8 points 1y ago
Yes, and then she's going to be begging partners to come in at the last minute. I think if she implements this she will be sorry pretty quickly and let it go back
Seaweedgreedy [OP] 4 points 1y ago
Exactly! And that’s not going to be fun for anyone.. I just don’t understand bc that could be avoided.

Maybe you could get with some other partners at your store and go to your DM? (Get a group so there’s less chance of retaliation, even though they aren’t supposed to retaliate)

I’d go about it as a concern thing - “I’m concerned that this will negatively impact the number of call outs we have, and therefore negatively impact the customer experience”

At my store we don’t even tell managers, we just get shift approvals. That sucks :/

Or call out to the shift say you found coverage and have the person you want to originally switch with cover your shift. They in turn would have to call out for their shift and have you cover their shift. It’s petty but sounds like your SM is being equally if not more petty about switches.
