How I feel on bar during peak (i.redd.it)

Saying the shots are 'dead' is meaningless when you put 120 grams of sugar on them.

And we sell mobile doppios that sit for 20 minutes before they are picked up

Man when they come through the drive through a half hour late and their Frappuccino they mobile ordered looks all goopy 😂 I feel bad for some people who are nice
Used_Thought4672 8 points 1y ago

I covered at another store once, was sequencing an espresso drink and a frapp, and the girl on the other bar RAN over to throw my shots in the cup the second they finished pouring and was like "I didn't want your shots to die!!"

Girl, what?

I had a coworker pour out my triple shot for a macchiato right in front of me as I was on my way back from making refreshers.

I was already stressed at peak on drive bar so I scolded her and she said “they were dead” I said “I don’t care, I have three drinks behind that one with three or more shots! Don’t touch my shots if you’re not going to put them in the drink!”

Once that macchiato was handed out the next car came up and had to wait and the same girl came over and said “Is that drink almost done?! They’ve been waiting for awhile!” And I just looked her dead in the eyes and said “Well is SOMEONE hadn’t dumped my shots they’d have their drink by now!” I was pissed

I mean generally you just shouldn't mess with someone's bar. like don't touch anything because I already have a plan for how I'm gonna make the 3 drinks that were just ordered and when you mess with my system it screws me up
lilkiosk 16 points 1y ago
Yes! This! I have had two separate exclusively DTO/DTR partners who try to mess with my bar when I’m sequencing the fuck out of drinks during a rush. Like stop it. I have to sprint over to try and prevent it. The worst part is it’s always partners who don’t know what they’re doing on bar (not because they haven’t been trained but because they just suck).

Sometimes I'll pour the shots for my bar partner if I'm there but I'm definitely not doing that much lol

Friendly reminder that espresso shots don’t “die”, that’s just a lie Starbucks tells you to make you work faster. Shots *develop* different flavors over time. Granted, the very bold and robust flavors of freshly pulled espresso are what you want to capture in a latte as opposed to the more citrus-y flavors that start to develop a few minutes after pulling, so it is worth pouring them in earlier, but ten seconds is a bit ridiculous. Sure the shot won’t be any good after five minutes or so, but let’s be realistic. Your average Starbucks customer will not care and will not be able to tell

I will die on this hill. I hate when other partners pour out my shots! Like don’t talk to me about espresso little girl, I have been a barista for many years and you were trained by a PowerPoint.

lmaoooo this reply made me laugh so hard
voidsalts 35 points 1y ago
Yeah we can slap down a doppio on the counter for 4 minutes while a guy is in drive through but I make 2 refreshers while my milk steams and shots pour and my shots (and all the syrups in a complicated order!) get thrown out?! Cmon..
thefemalepenis 25 points 1y ago
This is Starbucks... The espresso beans are greatly overroasted and I have had to remake many-a-drink because the customer couldn't stand the extremely bitter shots from a dead Starbucks shot. Sure, if you're making an overly surgery drink go for it, i'd doubt they'd notice or care (they usually do) but if you making an Americano or Caramel Macchiato it's best not to let them die. Espresso shots don't die, Starbucks shots do 💀
gay_robots 9 points 1y ago
That’s completely fair. I mean I’m a firm believer that you can make some pretty damn good coffee even using lower quality beans as long as you use proper technique, but there’s not much room to do that at Starbucks since our espresso machines are purely automatic
sadilg 10 points 1y ago
that’s the case *only* if that one shift supervisor isn’t watching lol

Nothing more annoying as a green bean learning bar and m the shift...who I'm 99% sure hates me for no reason....is constantly tossing my shots.

I strongly believe that all of you guys have not had a dead shot before…
It legit taste like battery acid lmao

You can chalk that up to our dumb, over roasted espresso beans. Shots do not “die”. Their flavor profile changes over time. Should you let an espresso shot sit out for hours and then expect it to be good? No. But espresso shots don’t go to shit if they’re sitting for a few minutes unless the bean quality is bad/the shot wasn’t prepared properly. Shots “dying” is a corporate gimmick pushed to cover up the fact that we have shit beans.
