Inquiring about 320 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ink_n_paint
TLDR: I am a 320 wondering why people dislike 320s, so drop a story in the comments if you have any.

Okay, Let me preface this by saying I am a 320, but I try very hard to not be like some of the stories I have read in this thread. But some seem to be a little tame and the older partners are just upset with the younger generation. (I mean... understandable with ageism and all that good stuff and how society makes people feel useless and no good when they are older) I was just curious to hear about your horror stories with a 320's.

(Also sorry if you do have a horror story... I wish you the best lol)

I assume you mean partner numbers? When I was hired a few years ago it was “omg you’re a 252??? Such a green bean so cute” and everyone was a 178 or 195 or someshit whereas nowadays if there’s a 19- anything at the store they’re the grandma haha

I think it’s the same as high school. When you’re a senior the freshmen look SO young.

Happens every year and with every batch of green beans. The older baristas get salty and then live moves on.

I’m a 320 in a store with a lot of people who’ve been there for years and nobody really cares, everybody is just super nice and helpful when I forget things!! I guess I’m lucky since I love my coworkers! I’ve only been working for over a month but from day 1 they all made me feel really welcome.

Same here, I guess that's why I was confused. I still wanna hear peoples stories though lol

Im a 296xxxx so i haven’t been here too long, but a few of our newer baristas are just…not good lmao. Kind of helpless, kind of dumb. I don’t know tbh. I’m super patient with green beans because it is a hard job, but these ones will make no effort to learn and stand there empty-headed until you say something.

I’m a 168. I don’t feel like new partners are bad. The reaction is just “i can’t believe I’m this old and still here.” Especially when the green bean says something like “oh i was 5 years old when you started at Starbucks!

i haven’t had any problems. my partners are really sweet and supportive— they answer my questions and help me when i need it. they even check up on me and offer words of encouragement whenever i’m busy running around doing what i need to do. there’s also another 320 with me and she’s in her 50s! i’m very grateful to work where i am :)

I could be reading your post wrong, but I'm a 320 and I'm not young. I'm in my 30s and probably the 3rd or 4th oldest in the store, lol. So I don't think being a green bean and being young are the same thing, and one of those factors could be causing issues while the other one is irrelevant. Maybe an older person is frustrated because a younger person isn't able to "read the room" professionally in a way that those of us who've been working more than half our lives can. Or maybe a seasoned barista of any age is annoyed because a green bean of any age is slowing them down or messing up their plan. It's nobody's fault, just human nature.

Being an older green bean, knowing I'm not "there" yet and reminding myself not to take things personally, I just try to read each person and set expectations accordingly. If I'm bar 2 during a lull and I know bar 1 is one of the super fast baristas that I feel I'm always in the way of, I'll just straight up ask, "Hey Susie, would you like support on drinks?" If they say yes then I ask what would help them most. If they say no I tell them I'll be working on cleaning and prep, ask if they need any stock right away, and tell them to holler if they need me for drinks. This approach has helped my relationships with a few of the people who I felt were constantly radiating annoyance, lol.

i’m a 320 and i’m constantly put on bar/drive thru bar because my sm says i kill it and am really efficient. it’s because of my work ethic, and i feel like a lot of green beans hired around/after my time don’t share the same work ethic as me which makes me suffer a lot with them on bar. so i guess the only reason i dislike some 320s is because they don’t really put any effort into being efficient besides the bare minimum, which hurts not only me but everyone else around me
