Someone posted recently asking what everyone's pet peeves were for customers, which was quite entertaining. But how 'bout what your fellow partners do that annoy you? This might actually be productive for bringing light to things we didn't realize we did that annoy others. Here are some of mine:
\-When bar partner doesn't swirl/mix mocha and white mocha into iced drinks and hand them out with a visible layer of sauce at the bottom
\-when register partner doesn't put a name on orders and handoff has to blindly shout the drink and hope the right customer grabs it (spoiler, they don't)
\-when CS continually forgets to reset brew timer and all drip coffees run out (especially during peak)
\-when cafe orders get silently placed in the mobile order area and angry customer ends up waiting 15 minutes for their now cold food/drink
How bout yall?
i_am_me47114 points1y ago
my sm pulling stickers while i’m in bar and making a line of cups but getting on me for pulling mobile stickers to get to cafe stickers. like no, it’s not going to make me go any faster. it just makes me cramped and confused about the order.
goldqueen28712 points1y ago
Today I was on bar by myself and this guy on reg kept pulling stickers and half making drinks before running back. The amount of times he did it silently without telling me what he was making or bringing the stickers even all the way to warming?!?! I kept having customers pissed at me cause their order was snatched and misplaced
8ultaoreune4 points1y ago
i understand the attempt to regibar but taking stickers all the way to warming? 😭 i hope he apologized
goldqueen2873 points1y ago
He didntttt he was so unapologetic I was silent cause I was the only girl on bar. I would end up looking like a bitch 😕
LxShadowKnight4 points1y ago
It shouldn’t matter how others view you if their view of you is biased and dumb. If you have a valid problem, you should voice that.
[deleted]75 points1y ago
-messing up my cadence when I’m CS
-standing around while up front when I’m dealing with a rush while I’m on bar. Don’t touch my stickers but grab a rag or something please! If we don’t have CS please brew coffee so I’m not having to get yelled at because we ran out of Pike during a rush!
-Grabbing stickers without asking while I’m on drive thru bar. I have a headset, I’m passively listening to the orders that come through, and I have a rhythm in my head. Pulling stickers and not telling me throws me off and I get really frustrated when that happens.
-passive aggressive partners correcting me on stuff and then getting mad when I point out they’re wrong
-and the biggest one is partners who don’t FIFO. I swear to god. Please PLEASE check the dates especially on the milk! That’s gross!!! It’s not that hard to move the milk around. On that note whenever I see people not shaking the alternative milks it turns my stomach. Curdled soy is gross. Take a few seconds to shake it and it’ll save a ton of frustration.
OrganizationGreen1716 points1y ago
ohmygod when people don’t fifo. or when they put opened cartons in the BACK of the fridges ohmygod
[deleted]6 points1y ago
Wait I need to add one more.
Being oblivious on cold bar (when there isn’t a cold bar barista) and taking up ALL THE FREAKING SPACE!!
We only have so much room to work. If you’re standing DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE and I can’t make drinks I’m gonna hip check you so I can get the people staring at me at the drive thru window out of the freaking way.
marilynmansonsbitch64 points1y ago
any and all bar support. ive coached partners time and time again on the best and most productive way to bar support when im solo barring. and they almost always end up either racing to make the drink first which ends up having multiples, or them starting a drink when the sticker prints whereas i started it when the customer ordred it at the order box, which also ends up in multiples. id rather just do it myself.
partners not replacing tongs ever and letting them get caked with nasty food.
cs letting sani’s turn to mud before changing them.
half-washed dishes.
putting pastries in sandwich bags and vice versa.
ive been here too long.
canidieyet_7 points1y ago
the bar support thing!!!! i’m often the go-to person for cold bar support especially during peak (given we have the staff) since i can whip out refreshers and fraps in the speed of light, and it’s genuinely my favorite place to be. i’ll get handed a stack of 20-30 cups at once and our green beans will be like “omg so many cups let me help you!!!”
like, i appreciate the offer but i have a ~system~. that and i’m a clean freak and they will spill half a box of coconut milk making a pink drink and not even attempt to clean it up. if i tell them i can handle it (nicely) and they insist on helping me i’ll literally have to be like “no, i have things set up in a specific way and having someone help me just makes things into a mess. please don’t help.” it comes off rude but don’t give unprompted help!!!! just let me and my 15 ribbon crunch fraps be
uwumoment2 points1y ago
i’ve never related more to a person in my life. it’s so annoying when anyone other than a ssv or my sm tries to help me on cold bar. please leave me alone my rhythm is being disrupted and you’re more in my way than you might think. pls move!!!
uwumoment1 points1y ago
got me trying to open the fridge for milk for fraps and they’re just standing in front of it!! pls gooooo away
olivinemultichrome2 points1y ago
My store decided that pastry bags are only for cold pastries, ANYTHING warmed must go into a sandwich bag. I hate it.
iwantyourpoison45 points1y ago
when my partners don’t shake refreshers. i get it if it’s busy and theres a lot.. even tho u should always do it. but refreshers look really off when not shaken
andrewdee037 points1y ago
WHEN PARTNERS DONT SHAKE MILKS OR REFRESHERS/ICED TEAS
RadiantZoink3 points1y ago
I didn't realize some partners even did this. Guess my store is just good
[deleted]32 points1y ago
[deleted]
Strwacwblktea6 points1y ago
At that point i start giving people stickers saying “okay you make these 2 refreshers im making these frapps” bc i hateee when other baristas try and do that to me

Oooo. Yesterday was one of my worst days yet. The most frustrating thing was my shift. As policy, a customer doesn’t like a drink, or if something is wrong about it, then we remake it. This can be annoying, but still we do it!
I almost always have a smile and am cherry, even if sometimes it’s forced haha. My shift was so visibly frustrated over remakes and people “not doing their job right.” Whenever a shift gets like that and is basically getting pissed at customers and partners, it ruins chemistry on the floor. They’re supposed to be leaders, not whiny babies because a green bean forgot to do something.
dexterwolf19 points1y ago
he also kept asking me to connect very passive aggressively… mind you, i am one of the best connectors. I enjoy conversations!! I’m always talking to people. Whenever I don’t it’s because they’re on the phone, talking to someone else, or visibly ill.
goldqueen2875 points1y ago
Ok but this guy kept coming back and having me remake 4 sars because the girls with him couldn’t just communicate with me. I was standing right there waiting for them to speak and they’d whisper something to him and he’d say something and I’d make it and they’d say “I didn’t order this!” And then whisper the remake to him again.
Competitive-Coat-67517 points1y ago
Wandering partners who don’t stay in their position unless asked to help elsewhere
cdog14116 points1y ago
We had one who never brushed his teeth, and then he would breathe on you. Not good.
canidieyet_5 points1y ago
this is considerably the worst one on this thread
clumsycalico15 points1y ago
Leaving the door of the Hobart down so you slam your shins into it when you come into the back. Idk how everyone else’s store is but there’s no way to see it’s down until you’ve already hit it and it’s a big rule for us but we have some green beans who think it isn’t a big deal. When they cut their leg open on it maybe they’ll start shutting it.
olivinemultichrome5 points1y ago
My first night solo as a shift, I was bringing some rolls to the back, tripped over the open Hobart door, split both of my shins open through my jeans, and dropped all four tills. I should have gotten stitches but urgent care was closed by the time I finished collecting the dropped money and sorting it out. People who leave the Hobart open deserve to solo bar during frappy hour.
clumsycalico2 points1y ago
Wow that’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard. Sorry that happened to you!!
olivinemultichrome3 points1y ago
That’s also not including how the safe managed to close enough to latch but not enough to turn off the alarm so the cops showed up. I cried when I got home. Upside, I figured no shift could possibly go worse than that first solo close so if I could handle that I could handle about anything.
Kohtako9514 points1y ago
When those who aren’t my boss try to order me around or overly try to change my stance on things. No, I will continue to talk the same way I have for the last 2 year because no, I have not gotten fired or even told off for it besides YOU who got bugged by it.
MatchingColors13 points1y ago
When a partner ices a drink and half the scoop of ice ends up on the counter. I understand you’re going fast but it’s not that hard to get ice into a cup
And EASILY number 1 most irritating: please throw out your drinks when your shift is over. I can’t tell you how many times I’m dumping 10 partner drinks that are 4 hours old
shmeep102 points1y ago
I try to get all the ice into the cup, esp when slow, but sometimes I gotta go fast and some ice gets on the bar
MatchingColors5 points1y ago
Oh it’s totally understandable! But I know of some vicious heathens that will go for a second scoop because they only got half of the first scoop in the cup and I’m like: *surprised pikachu*
shmeep101 points1y ago
Yea I only get like 5 cubes spilling out when I'm goin hella fast, I try to do ice over sinks as well
ukucello13 points1y ago
I can't stand when people leave milks out all over the bar area. Like, I get that it's more convenient when you're busy, but it's not sanitary, the customers can see it, and it crowds the countertop. Put. The. Milk. Away. >:(
goldqueen2879 points1y ago
I only do that during peak but the minute I get to clean I wipe them down and put them away. It’s not on purpose I just get mad when I put it away and the immediate next sticker tells me topull it out 😭
ukucello2 points1y ago
I was just trained to pour it, put it back immediately. I know that I'm going to be taking milks out and putting them back all morning, yk?
goldqueen2872 points1y ago
Yeah but realistically for my store, during a rush when everyone’s running around and our bar is so small that opening the fridge takes up all the space that’s needed for cs and the warming runner, having the important milks like whole milk and coconut on cold bar and 2% on hot bar really makes a difference and helps us stay planted. If putting the milks back every time helps you out then that’s cool too!
silentwhisperer148412 points1y ago
STOP STICKERING MY GODDAM CUPS!!!! LMAOOO damn it irritates me so much! I can promise you it won’t make me go faster. I have a headset. I know what needs to be done and I don’t want to slow myself down peeling off stickers. Also get out of my way!!! Only like being on bar with maybe 3 people at my store because we work around each other and STAY OUT OF THE WAY. Damn, getting angry just writing this out lmfao
silentwhisperer14842 points1y ago
ALSO (I’m so sorry I just remembered lmaoo) DONT FINISH MY DRINKS AND CLOSE THE GODDAM ICE BINS!!!!!!! F*{%|! I can’t tell you guys how many times other partners have spilled milk or full drinks in the ice bins and we have to empty out the whole thing!
nightkat8911 points1y ago
When people don’t rinse their shit or when people leave milks out
CheyenneJudith11 points1y ago
Not prioritizing cafe/ drive thru drinks/food items. Those customers are already there why are you making mobiles for people who aren’t here yet. It causes times to increase for the drive thru, and causes cafe customers to get pissed for how long they are waiting.
wifeypoopoo9 points1y ago
When I'm on bar and a customer at handout has asked for something, and another barista on bar asks me to get it for them. Like, bro, I'm on bar too.....
goldqueen2879 points1y ago
Ok but I’m gonna go off of this. Customers who expect all 5 of their drinks to be done because we called them over for their caramel macchiato. Why??
Mayorfluffy5 points1y ago
I guess if you order multiple items you expect them to call you when the entire order is finished. That's how most other chains do it so it's probably a habit
goldqueen2874 points1y ago
Habit yeah that makes sense. We just don’t have the time or space to connect drinks and food to bring out a whole order when it’s done. We don’t have a dt so we haven’t had that sort of organization to begin with
[deleted]8 points1y ago
[deleted]
goldqueen2875 points1y ago
Oh my goddd why did this happen to me yesterday?? They want you to step off and do cs stuff so they can stop wandering and hop on bar themselves
[deleted]4 points1y ago

goldqueen2872 points1y ago
I wish. Half my team is like that. When I was newer I was finally assigned to bar but someone else came in 15 minutes after me and since they self appointed themselves as bar, i decided to ask questions to make sure I was making drinks right. Every time I asked a question they’d take the cup from me say “I got it” and make it themselves 😃 I didn’t make more than 3 drinks when they were around
krym32zamoon7 points1y ago
-When the steam wand isn't wiped or purged and is left for someone else to do causing things to go slowly
-FIFO YA GD MILKS
-Just unnecessary messiness. You didn't have to go wild with that topping, cause now the counter is all dirty.
-CLEAN AS YOU GO FOR FKS SAKE
-Look around and don't avoid drinks. I'll have one sitting to be iced right by the ice and ppl will walk by it to pull new stickers. No. Get back there and finish off the drinks! We need efficiency!
[deleted]7 points1y ago
My store specifically separates the bars into mobile, cafe, drive thru, and cold bar. So it annoys tf outta me when I'm on MY designated bar, and everyone is pulling my stickers/starting my drinks without asking me. Each person is supposed to focus on their own bar. It bothers me so much and messes with my rhythm. Just say on your own bar, and don't bother me unless I ask for help!!!
bonc_loser6 points1y ago
Some of my fellow baristas (love them, hate this) when on cold bar leave every juice, milk, blender, whip, etc. Just out on top of the bar leaving little to no room to actually make the drinks. When I’ve had to take over I have to take a minute to clean and organize just so I can bar more efficiently
Baristasonfridays6 points1y ago
All of the above ☝🏻😂😂😂
limechipLIVE6 points1y ago
i didn’t have any but i was trained to help bar and put stickers on the cup and line them up for them… is that annoying and should i stop?? :/
[deleted]15 points1y ago
Depends on the person. To me, that’s how stickers get lost but that’s my own personal pet peeve.
carcinophile5 points1y ago
Honestly, communication is key here. It is up to the individual person, so there's nothing wrong w/ asking what they'd like you to do :)
Malevolent_barnacle5 points1y ago
Depends on the store - at my cafe store R1 partner is responsible for pulling stickers so B1/B2 focus on production
drowninginristretto2 points1y ago
Personally I would say yes, having too many cups on my bar stresses me out.
Skitsskatss5 points1y ago
When they squeeze the caramel drizzle into the hot caramel macchiato and let one big squirt fall to the bottom of the cup instead of crosshatching it...also handing out a hot drink that has over an inch of space in the cup
Also putting only a dollop of whipped cream in the frappes making it look ugly and lazy ..
juiceyluicy4 points1y ago
When partners don’t follow drink standards and recipes. It isn’t hard. Also when partners make prep and don’t whisk shit that’s supposed to be whisked (lemonades, strawberry açaí..) especially sweet creams.
thesnowywife3 points1y ago
Not rinsing shot glasses irritates me so much.
_lanalana_1 points1y ago
Omg! I rinse shot glasses super often but once when i first started i had a shift try to “correct” me and say that I didn’t need to rinse the shot glasses EVER bc they were getting washed at the end of the day. Icky.
hailvy1 points1y ago
Ask them if they’d say the same about the blenders
canidieyet_3 points1y ago
i have a whole lot of partner pet peeves but there’s one that really annoys me: shaming partners for getting a frappuccino/cold foam and giving MAJOR attitude for it. i’ve seen it a lot in this sub and it pisses me off. i’ve gone in on my day off work to get myself a coffee (usually get salted foam), and when i go i usually get my brother a drink (caramel frap). i’ve seen my own coworkers look me in the eye and throw out my stickers because they didn’t want to take the 10 seconds and make the foam or make a frappuccino and demand i make it myself. there’s so many partners i’ve seen who want to drink a frap but are afraid to get yelled at by their own coworkers. like?? it’s just childish
Artepinokio3 points1y ago
Making a complete mess on bar, never cleaning after themselves. When supporting me on bar, making random drinks waay back at the queue. FOLLOW THE QEUE! Giving me teas and pikes to make. It's tills job not mine. Baristas hiding in the cupboard checking their phones (I didn't want to be an ass but there's partner files coming) and yes we have a problem in my store and we're addressing it. Not letting me know when they leave the bar/till etc. You don't need my permission to go to the toilet but please let me know you're going so I can freaking cover your spot. Aspiring supervisors trying to boss me around (I'm a shift) when they don't even know what allergens are, or call for me every 2 minutes cause they can't find something at the till. (this specific partner is working at the store for 4 years now). I got many more, it'll take all day.
shmeep103 points1y ago
When people don't put the frap roast and the milk into the cup to measure before putting it into the blender. And when they put the syrup and stuff into the cup before the blender

when my midday ssv changes my order that I already submitted and recorded because she "knows better and been here longer", and ending up running out/having too much of said items
yoonade213 points1y ago
-when the barista I trained still doesn’t try to steam milk properly even though I have gone through the milk steaming process with them for the past 2 months, so when a customer asks for a latte the only milk they get is foam.
It’s just so irritating because I have gone through so many different coaching methods just to get the process down but all they are focused on is their damn phone at work. All it takes is a little effort but since they don’t put any, the best place they can be at would just be window.
swampedswirl3 points1y ago
From this thread, I’ve found out that you’re supposed to shake alternative milks? I had no idea.😳 I was never told to do that nor have I seen anyone do it. Are you supposed to always do it for soy/almond/coconut/oat milk?
im_feeling_cold10 points1y ago
have you ever opened a box of almond milk without shaking it and it looks like water? that’s because it is just water. you need to shake non dairies. no exceptions.
my_anus_exploded6 points1y ago
Have you ever opened a new box of alternative milk without shaking it? You'll know why we shake them.
swampedswirl0 points1y ago
Yes, I have and haven’t noticed any of the “chunkiness” y’all are referring to. I’ve not seen ANY of my fellow partners do it either, but I’ll make sure to do it from now on!
serpheyer1 points1y ago
Im a green bean and got corrected when I shook the almond milk one day “you don’t need to shake the milk before pouring it into the cup”. I wish they would have more clear general training guidelines on this!!
_lanalana_2 points1y ago
Pulling allllllll of my hot bar stickers during rush just to get to that one refresher 4 cars back, and then leaving the stickers haphazardly stuck all over the counter
When i step away from my spot for ~30 seconds to hand off a drink and they decide that they’re suddenly drive thru bar and start randomly working on my drinks
Queuing shots on my machine without saying anything to me
hctiB_bmuD2 points1y ago
Stop pulling more than three stickers on my bar because mobile people will start showing up thinking their drink is done.
Stop handing drinks over to me on cold bar with out putting shots, milks, syrups on your bar in there. It just ruins the purpose.
DTO not multi tasking and passing drinks over to me when I need them for window and then I get talked to about drive times.
People who just started working at the siren telling me what to do on bar. I know what I'm doing, please leave me be.
uwumoment1 points1y ago
all of these are my peeves too! but my least favorite at the moment is when i’m on cold bar sometimes my hot bar people will try and help me out and don’t clean up after themselves. it’s annoying!!
sydbey_1 points1y ago
people moving things around when I’m on bar, seriously messes up my sequencing like I’m very clean and very organized and I have 2 pitchers out to sequence easily and 2% on the counter next to me - anything else is in the fridge but people come over for some reason and try to work the same bar I’m literally standing at and pull milk out like y??? I’m here I’m doing it it’s all good please make other drinks or something!! There’s a second bar and a second fridge for this reason 😫
i-amthebreadman1 points1y ago
when people throw away full drinks instead of dumping them out in the sink first, or better when they don’t even throw their drink away and just leave it for someone else to take care of
No_Flight_56731 points1y ago
- when a partner refills the ice bins and spills ice all over the counters - unnecessary bar support - when a partner doesn’t stay planted and lets tickets pile up - when the CS doesn’t pull the old milks up front and put new ones in the back ESPECIALLY when they push an OPEN milk to the back
imlysscining1 points1y ago
I hate when people interrupt my que sequence while I’m in the middle of barring, drives me BONKERS
lilkiosk1 points1y ago
-coming in for a weekend mid-close and inevitably being put on drive bar and the morning partner just dips the second I show up and doesn’t clean or stock ANYTHING and I’m left with a nightmare to clean and without any milks and expected to make tons of drinks because (hot take but I have done all of it) weekend mids are a million times worse than opens/mornings
-and as others have mentioned, another partner messing with my stickers/drinks because GIRL! IM SEQUENCING! YOURE THROWING ME OFF! STOP! DO! NOT! TOUCH! MY! BAR!
ObnoxiousR1 points1y ago
When sani is given to a partner that hates sani ( i love doing sani, anything to be away from the costumers)
stealingsight1 points1y ago
everyone is just immature. not that im a wise sage either but im sick of people faking sickness to call out of work or people using every air molecule in their lungs to complain about trivial matters lmfao
OrganizationGreen1711 points1y ago
when people clean counters with steam wand rags or when people don’t crush the ice so they just come out in ginormous chunks ;-;
KaleSalad2011 points1y ago
When another partner complains the ENTIRE shift over the headset so everyone can hear and messes up everyone else’s day. I get when something happens and venting to your coworkers that’s fine, but when it’s the entire shift no matter where you are or what is going on just please stop and keep it to yourself, I can’t deal with the negative energy from partners AND customers all at once 😭😭😭😭
when the person on DTO stands on their phone while I’m drowning on bar instead of either helping make drinks or making the mountain of backups behind them
When the person at front has no one in cafe and just stands there instead of brewing coffees or moving the pastries over
When the partners who stand around and do nothing but the bare bare minimum their whole shifts complain to the partners who have been scrambling to get everything done the entire shift 🙃
When me, a barista, is running the shift because the shift working is horrible at it and we will end up staying over an hour later after close without me doing a job I’m not paid for
devinboyd981 points1y ago
Not shaking refreshers, shifts putting stickers on cups and just placing them on counter completely ruining the flow of everyone working, people not marking what we are out of in the system or not letting anyone know so customers are angry when they get to the window and we say we don’t actually have something, when cold bar baristas leave the sweet cream out and it warms so it doesn’t make the foam properly in the blender
[deleted]1 points1y ago

When my shift complains about pulling MOP stickers (and not immediately making them) to get to cafe and drive thru orders. Even though there’s no way for me to get to those orders without pulling stickers.
