The health consequences of forbidden espresso beans brownies? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by keian_nr
I swallowed one whole yesterday and today and was wondering about it. Has anyone found out the hard way yet?
Ristrettooo 91 points 1y ago
. . . did you lose a bet?

($1)
keian_nr [OP] 48 points 1y ago
Thanks for the link!! Lol, I was wondering if it goes through any suspicious process (eg ends up contaminated when it goes through the machine, am unsure if that process is sanitised, though the cleaning pills I'm sure takes care of that.)

I didn't lose a bet, Starbucks is just turning me deranged 😭
rlogranite 6 points 1y ago
My guess is you'll have the shits for a couple of days
jcj44 57 points 1y ago
nothing bad should happen, we sell chocolate covered espresso beans
keian_nr [OP] 25 points 1y ago
My coworker said the same thing, haha! I should try those for sure.
vkapadia 5 points 1y ago
They're so good, I love em
nicathor 54 points 1y ago
You... swallowed... an entire grounds puck? This won't kill you, but your brain just might some day.
Calm_Preference6209 53 points 1y ago
I love natural selection
keian_nr [OP] 62 points 1y ago
I hope it takes me before this terrible company does LOL

Why be vulnerable when you can eat the Forbidden Brownie
bman14613 4 points 1y ago
Only covered in white mocha
pipislayer 3 points 1y ago
This comment took me OUT 😂
mini_unknown_error 27 points 1y ago
I can't believe you fucking did that, I'm super fuckin impressed. Just looking at them make me nauseous.
keian_nr [OP] 21 points 1y ago
Looking at the especially wet ones/the ones sitting in the puddles of warm water for hours don't help haha!! I was very selective with my forbidden brownie.

The idea of the texture alone is nauseating for sure ...
wolfydoe 27 points 1y ago
What did it taste like?
keian_nr [OP] 53 points 1y ago
Way, way too grainy, and very coarse. It is not pleasant to chew. But basically just coffee flavour. The texture will be the thing that makes you flinch a little... but I wash it all down with a glass of milk, and none of it sticks in my throat or anything (which I was always thinking might happen before I tried it). Was more mystified by it then anything, hence I tried again today lol

Doesn't really give me a caffeine kick, but caffeine doesn't tend to wire me up! So it's really just like a weird bite of coffee flavoured sand.
medusas-garden 21 points 1y ago
First of all, god bless you. Second of all, besides being nauseous from actually swallowing it I don’t think anything will happen. I almost threw up when I ate one but I chewed it not swallowed it whole so maybe that made a difference
keian_nr [OP] 13 points 1y ago
I'll be real, the only reason I can eat it proper is because I sip some milk after putting the damn thing in my mouth! It's way too grainy to swallow otherwise... And drinking makes me feel safer because imagine all those grounds going down the wrong pipe. Oofffff
bigghostb00ty 11 points 1y ago
Is this something you’ve done more than once??
GetitTogetherJasmine 19 points 1y ago
wait…are you talking about the espresso grounds?
Gimmecoffee2020 14 points 1y ago
I love that you woke up this morning and said, “ I really need another one of those.”
yyz_barista 9 points 1y ago
Shouldn't be any health consequences. There's hot water for espresso run through the pucks anyways.

My biggest worry would probably chemical contamination, either from the tablets used for cleaning the machine, or perhaps residue from when the drawer was last cleaned out.

Other than that, probably not an issue.

Where's the Ryan Reynolds "But why?" meme when I need it
sammieduck69420 6 points 1y ago
i have an at-home espresso cappuccino maker and i made a forbidden brownie for my roommate last night. you’re good i’m sure
katevendetta 4 points 1y ago
We found out the hard way once that everything Starbucks uses even cleaning tabs or urn cleaner powder are food grade - not tasty but non toxic :)
SkarekrowXIII 3 points 1y ago
At my store we give them to the new people as an initiation. As part of the initiation, one of us pulls the green bean to the back while another dresses two of them up. Then the green bean and I will sit and eat the brownies. Out of the 6 or so times that I've done it, the only problem that I've had is an upset stomach, but that usually leaves after I've had a little bit of water and something to eat
Ok-Mix-5129 3 points 1y ago
Lol I ate one cause they said I wouldn’t, doesn’t do anything except a stomach ache maybe and bad bad bad taste
[deleted] 1 points 1y ago
Forbidden espresso beans brownies. I am have to ask about this one lol. Sounds delicious.
Webshooter38 1 points 1y ago
It'll be the same as if you are a bunch of chocolate covered espresso beans. I eat whole beans all the time, but never the brownies. It's purely a texture preference though, nothing to do with taste for me.
[deleted] 1 points 1y ago
i would love to just... eat one. howd it taste?
claudiaabou 1 points 1y ago
i did this one time just for funsies and it was the worst texture ever
sharkiemd 1 points 1y ago
