Thinking about becoming a partner (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sissyyy989
I am thinking about applying for a job. I recently moved to a new state and left my healthcare job. Now I’m paying for cobra insurance which is ridiculously expensive. I have to have insurance due to an upcoming surgery and the follow up visits. I don’t plan on applying until after the surgery though. My plan is to also go back to school. A friend of mine is a partner and takes advantage of the school and insurance benefits and I have not heard any complaints. I used to work at sonic making drinks for 5 years and I think it will be similar to that. Anyways, is that a good idea just to get through school and have health insurance? I don’t love working in food service but it’s better than health care so I think I can handle it again.

This is exactly what I'm doing. It isn't the best, but honestly, despite all the complaining that happens on this and other starbucks subreddits, it is a good job and I do enjoy it. Sure there are days and weeks and people that suck, but that happens in any job. Overall, it isn't so bad. To have free school and affordable healthcare, it is worth it in my opinion. However, you might be too late on healthcare. The deadline to sign up is August 20th so if you aren't a partner yet, you'd have to wait til next year.

Honestly don’t do it. The company has been such a mess lately. At least with my experience with Starbucks, my managers/upper management haven’t been handling the labor shortages well. She has now more than ever put her store over her partners safety and well-being.
