October Raise (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sugarraide
does anyone know what’s going on with the raise we’re supposed to be getting in October? i haven’t really been brought up to date on specifics and i’m curious. also, what are everyone’s feelings regarding the raise?
peachfaeries 25 points 1y ago
when i got hired (08/03) my sm said my raise would go from 10.50 to 12 i think in october? im not sure though /:
nightkat89 48 points 1y ago
Supposedly baristas will be making 12 while “some select markets” will be making 15.

I don’t know why they don’t just bump all baristas to 15 and dodge the PR nightmare.
peachfaeries 16 points 1y ago
yeah it sucks, but i think it depends on what your states minimum wage is but im not sure. i wish it was all just the same haha
BabeLincoln420 24 points 1y ago
it 100% should be all the same. when i transfer home from school i go from being paid 15.50 to 10.50 ……why? what’s the difference in my work? i’m doing the same job, just in a difference place.

corporate wants to only give us the bare minimum to keep us at bay. it’s time say no

This is a company thing. But yes, if the company rate is below your state’s minimum wage, then you’ll be making the minimum instead.
peachfaeries 3 points 1y ago
my states min wage is $8.80 i believe
goldqueen287 4 points 1y ago
What if my location makes 15.50 an hour? Will it just not change
BabeLincoln420 9 points 1y ago
this is a fantastic question as i’m in the same boat.

like i said i think it’s a percentage increase so ppl like us will get .75 cents if i’m thinking about it correctly.

it’s about time we band together and demand a much higher increase across the whole corporation.
goldqueen287 4 points 1y ago
Yes! We don’t put up with this company for nothing. 75 cents would sadly be a blessing
rio8envy7 2 points 1y ago
You’ll get the 5 or 6% raise
goldqueen287 1 points 1y ago
Thank youu
charbchillin 24 points 1y ago
In SF the starting pay is 17.27.

Before everybody is like “WoW sO mUch”. The cost of living in the Bay Area is not matching with the pay we get lol
clumsycalico 4 points 1y ago
Yeah, we get 12 in Colorado which is way better than the 8 most states get but it’s still nothing compared to our raging housing market.
WorthPrinciple7049 1 points 1y ago
I agree, except I’m fine with it where I live. In my area $15 an hour for a fast food job is way more than anywhere else. I get why we won’t be going straight to $15 (minimum wage as a whole is another argument), but I would hope in your area they would be able to match other restaurants! $15 sounds low!
BabeLincoln420 20 points 1y ago
it seems to be a percentage raise, i think 5%?

everyone’s base pay differs from state to state depending on the laws, and i’m assuming also outside the country it’s like this as well? not entirely sure, but all around we deserve a wayyyy higher raise. To me the yearly wage increases only barley combat inflation and more so seems like a yearly performative show that keeps us at bay.

Overall we need to be paid a higher rate that matches current costs of living. But sadly it seems we will never be paid a living wage through congressional acts or through the “generosity” of corporate, the only way we will is through our collective strengths, research, and confidence. Demand a living wage ! The time is now! The strength is ours!
ComplaintKey6694 19 points 1y ago
Legit. Not to mention for tenured partners this is honestly a slap in the face. 6 percent of 12 dollars is literally a 72 cent raise. Compare that to the rent inflation and it's literally laughable.
BabeLincoln420 5 points 1y ago
that is extremely sad to hear, I think it’s time we all take this into our own hands. Even just complaining like this together is a good start. We must take action though….personally i’ve been complaining about this at my store to management and am slowly getting others to do so too, we must keep this up. The power is in OUR hands.
melodiic_ 2 points 1y ago
yeah. when my sm told us i couldn't believe what i was hearing, a 6% raise to celebrate a profitable quarter for corporate is just insulting. should be $15 MINIMUM for barista/$17 for ssv, regardless of job market/cost of living imo. if a local business can afford to pay $16/hr so can starbucks
hailvy 4 points 1y ago
I’m going from 11.50 to 12. In January my states minimum wage goes from 11 to 12. I’m getting a downgrade
sugarraide [OP] 13 points 1y ago
the U.S general strike starts on October 15th, i think it’s time we all banded together and made some serious changes. we deserve to be able to afford to live. i know most baristas barely make enough to pay rent and the cost of living just keeps going up. know your rights!
sheep_heavenly 6 points 1y ago
Its barely a cost of living raise in most markets. For the vast majority of baristas, this raise will net them ~$0.60 raise. For reference, that was what partners used to get in raises every six months pending an amazing performance review. For partners making $20, which is not very many of us at all, it just breaks $1.

Oh, and check insurance rates in your area. A ton of partners in my area noticed the insurance credit went down, about as much as we're getting a raise. Neat!

The ones jumping to $12 or $15? Awesome!
[deleted] 5 points 1y ago
My market is going from $10.50 to $12.50 October 4th. I have heard that we are jumping to $15.00 October 2022
BabeLincoln420 10 points 1y ago
i’m in new york and we are paid $15 ( i think because of state laws ?) but why won’t corporate pay $15 all across the board ?

They can, but they won’t. Corporate doesn’t care about us, they only care about giving us the bare minimum
[deleted] 6 points 1y ago
Honestly it should be paid $15 across the board. I don’t know why it would be different
[deleted] 4 points 1y ago
from what i understand everyone is being brought up to 12$ and people already making more than that are supposed to be getting a percentage raise? idk. it’s too little too late for me. i’m tired of being shit on by customers, coworkers, and the company. as soon as i get a better job offer i’m gone
maddiebrook 3 points 1y ago
man I make 10 right now so I’m so happy about this, I wish they would have done it sooner. Idk if my market is going to 12 or 15 but either way I’m just happy that the work I do is closer to being properly compensated
XMyshelX 3 points 1y ago
I've not been told anything but I know it's got to be complicated because I live in a very affluent area but the district next to us makes about a dollar less starting out because the cost of living is sooo much higher here. I think it will be interesting to see I'm a ten year partner and every time there's an pay increase it's not ever been equal ( ie.... I know some one who for 3 years got the “starting rate” because every year the we're meant to get a raise they raised the minimum so the just stayed there)
barista2111 2 points 1y ago
6 year partner here currently making ~$11/hr. If I get bumped to starting wage again, I'm rage quitting and working at Taco Bell for $15/hr.
LeatherTurnip1224 2 points 1y ago
They really need to think about us as people. They don’t give us raises yet they could pay for all these people when they where out with Covid? They really screwed themselves with that. I just don’t get why they can’t make wages a little more realistic for people since they obviously have the money for it.
Sdee1234 1 points 1y ago
5% for baristas hired before june I believe and 6% for tenured baristas. All different amounts depending on location. Starbucks is moving toward a $15 starting wage in all US. Not fully there yet
gabbyisepic00 1 points 1y ago
Y'all get 10.50? I only got 10 in VA, the gm says the raise is 12 bucks and the first week of oct
SpicyRamenQueen 1 points 1y ago
my current store in colorado makes 12 to start out, denver starts with 15. we have not been told about any raise? i wonder if it’s gonna slip over us?
