Any former Baristas still get nightmares about working at Starbucks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by itsjustsomethingdoto
This is a question for past baristas I worked at a store in NY many years ago(numbers started with 152….). Probably quit eleven years ago. At least once a month I have a nightmare about a past customer, situations, stupid drink, something like that. Some past Baristas I worked with mentioned they will get that from time to time, I’m just curious if this happens to anyone else.

i'm a current barista and something similar happens to me. I'll be lying down in bed after a closing shift, and as i'm half asleep, i'll mentally "take an order" and "put it on my nightstand. " couple minutes later i'll wake up in a mild panic because I went to sleep instead of making the drink.

i woke up and made 4 venti tik tok drinks for a single order while i was still half asleep 😭 starbucks stresses me out

Anytime there’s mentions of Karens, peak, driv-thru, absurd orders, dropped food items (after being ordered), the damned driv-thru time, broken espresso machines, etc., etc., I recoil from painful memories and remained thankful that I don’t work there anymore.

216xxxx partner here, left sbux in 2017. Sad to report I’m still dreaming that the sticker machine is broken and I’ve forgotten how to read cups while on bar.

I quit and came back to sbux. During the time in between I had a reoccurring nightmare about someone trying to dismantle the only machine to clean it while I was trying to make a mocha for drive thru.

I’m out for 2 weeks now and I have nightmares (still) about seeing a long ass wait line with angry people — and everyone wants a stupid ass iced caramel macchiato 😂

YES. Sometimes I dream about people calling out and I’m planning every minute in my head so that I can find a way to manage everything and not fall behind in tasks.
Other times, I dream I’m at bar and I keep getting refreshers and somehow the bar won’t stay dry! 😭

I was a “172” and worked for almost ten years. Three years later, I still have dreams( sometimes day dreams) of some of the upsetting times at SBUX. It’s crazy.

You’re right. It’s weird because I don’t have bad dreams about any other job. I can vividly remember the awful Karens that order nonsensical drinks though. Who on earth wants to drink a latte made with 3/4 breve and 1/4 whole milk. Ristretto no foam of course or it was flying back at you.

It took like 5 years for them to totally stop

For me, it's the never-right tall caramel macchiato. I make it wrong over and over and over

I only have nightmares about coming in late to shifts or thinking I had slept in and missed it. I was like so sad. I love being there.

Every once in a while, most specifically about this one shift supervisor, whenever she would get mad at me (which was a lot) she would always squeeze my arm super tight while talking down to me in front of customers, that was just one thing she did to make my life hell
itsjustsomethingdoto [OP]1 points1y ago
That’s a real tough work environment. It’s one thing to be abused by the public, but by your co-workers is a whole different animal. I’m glad you got out of that situation.

Thanks, I am too, that place was so bad, only like 2 of the baristas and am are there from the time I was there, which was like a year ago

I'm a current barista so your question doesn't apply to me, but it made me think of something similar that does happen to me.
Before I had kids, I was a nanny. This was over 20 years ago. One of the things I did was prepare whatever dinner the mom planned, and then the mom would put it in the oven after I left. I still every so often have dreams that it's time for me to leave their house and I forgot to make the dinner, lol. The funny thing is that if that ever did happen in real life, the mom would have probably laughed and just ordered a pizza or something, so it wouldn't have even been a big deal.
Our brains are weird. Whenever I have that dream I think how crazy it is that I have these remnants of the past from over 20 years ago that pop up. I've raised two of my own kids to adulthood already, and I'll still have a dream about forgetting to make dinner for someone else's family, lol.
