I think it makes the smallest of differences but it's one foot ahead of the rest, right? Why not go for the extra step when you only have something to gain. If it were me you met, I'd surely write your information in the daily records book and request a callback from my manager. Your resume would also be taped to the back desk.

It also gives you a chance to meet the people you'll potentially work with, and a chance to glimpse whether or not you feel the call of the Siren.

Well, in reality the shift supervisors can’t do much in terms of hiring. They can refer/ recommend you, but it all comes down to the Store Manager. I would personally ask for their email and send your resume and a nice email directly to them.

Yeah I know they aren't able to hire but I was thinking in terms of passing it on. Thanks for comment though! I'll definitely have to do do that :)

So at least at my store, the manager prefers to hire up, so a barista may be showing interest in the position, or the manager just doesn’t want to have an outside hire in the position. Another thing, the manager has already reviewed your application and may not want to hire you for other reasons and that is why you received the email. An in person resume may show initiative, but I don’t know how much of a difference it would make.

Wouldn't the email just say we're not moving forward at this time and not say the spot is filled? I checked online and it did say this spot is no longer open

That's an automated email from the recruiting software that could be related to 1 of 2 situations.

1. The SM viewed your application and returned your profile to the pool of applicants due to whatever reason they deemed you not being a fit for the store (experience, or availability)

2. More likely the SM isn't staying on top of the applications pushed through the system and they automatically refreshed after 30 days of no activity, prompting the automatic response.

Call the store and find out when the SM will be there and take your resume in to the SM. Do not go during peak (6:30am - 9:30am) or a weekend.

Best of luck!

I’m not sure how managers are required to respond to applicants, I’m just telling you how hiring for supervisors works at my store and why you may have not been selected.

The shifts can’t do anything for you except hand it to the store manager, they have no control over who’s hired. I suggest going in on a Monday and asking for the manager. Often mondays are when the manager sits in the back to do work.
