unsafe road conditions (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by darbusparkus
So there is currently a tropical storm in my area, and I was JUST on the road my store is on and the conditions are pretty bad. The water was a bit high to be comfortably driving through and it's only going to get worse before my shift at 5. I am a green bean and don't know anyone I could ask to cover my shift except for my trainer who is already exhausted and in a bad spot. I texted my SM and told her the situation and she said the drive-thru wasn't bad as if that automatically means the road I have to DRIVE ON to get to work isn't bad. If the rain gets worse and the water gets higher, what should/can I do?

Call the store and/or tell the SM you can’t make it. Your job isn’t worth risking your life or car, even if your SM ends up being a piece of garbage about it.

That is what I was thinking too. Plus if I couldn't make it to my shift, why does she think that someone else could? I am not trying to put one of my partners at risk???

Tell your SM you're not coming. This job is not worth your life. I've done it before, we had a horrible snowstorm last year and I told her if she wasn't gonna let me close early she was gonna have to come in and close cause I didn't feel safe driving in those conditions in the dark. It's worth saying and I'd be shocked if you loose your job over it
