If I’m being honest that’s not the worst I’ve seen. Chocolate with matcha doesn’t even sound that bad, and the Carmel just adds a tacky sweetness.

And I don’t wanna blow this out of proportion, but it’s sometimes annoying seeing other baristas kinda judging other peoples drinks? Like if it’s one of those ridiculous 12 pump of every syrup type drink yeah go ahead cuz it’s funny, but for drinks in this case where it’s just a little weird, it doesn’t warrant judgement. Just Bc u dont think it’ll taste good doesn’t mean it’s gross. Ok sorry I sound like such a baby, I’m not mad at this post just needed an excuse to rant 😞

I'm not judging. I just despise matcha with a fiery passion so any drinks with matcha instantly get a 🤢 reaction from me.

Backstory with the matcha. Another partner somehow broke the stand that it sits in while it's in its little bowl thing. It legit just snapped off, we don't know how it happened. Well guess who was standing next to that other barista and who also got covered in matcha powder. I'm talking *head-to-toe* covered... 🥲 I'm 99% sure I breathed in matcha powder through my mask.

Now... any drink that has matcha... I'm just like "get it awayyyyyyyyy"... much to the amusement of my coworkers. 🙄

I totally get what you're saying and ordinarily I don't judge. At least I try not to - but things with matcha are fair game for me 😅

Wait matcha with frapp chips sounds good 🥺 there are these waffle ice cream sandwiches I get at the Asian market and it’s matcha ice cream covered in a layer of chocolate and it’s soooo bomb so I can imagine the frap would be tasty too (no caramel tho 🤧)

I feel like I would seriously love that waffle ice cream sandwich if it came without matcha.

The caramel drizzle also definitely threw me off. It just looks... unappetizing on top.

Like I've already said. You're allowed to like matcha just like I'm allowed to dislike matcha.

I've worked at Starbucks for 3 months. I've seen somewhat bad. I have not seen bad bad. Please do not come at me, I'm still a new barista 🥺

(This is in no way said with any attitude... I'm just tired of people legitimately giving me hate over an ingredient. Its been a long day. I'm tired. I'm a grad student and a barista so please don't take this in a bad way)

white mocha in a matcha latte tastes EXACTLY like matcha kitkats if u ever wanna try it. i was obsessed with those kitkats for a while so i was determined to find something that replicated it lol. i only ever tried it hot tho!

You're also being incredibly rude. I'm allowed to have opinions on things that I do not like. I'm sure you have things that you absolutely do not like and you complain about those.

I happen to not like matcha. It is not to my tastes. I'm not saying you're not allowed to like matcha. If you take a look upwards you'll see I spoke (quite pleasantly actually) with someone who loves matcha. That is their personal preference and I had no issues with them. You're starting something over legitimately nothing other than personal tastes.

If you are comfortable with creating this post I don’t see why you can’t be open minded to the opposite opinion. Idc if you don’t like matcha but be aware that Starbucks keeps it around for a reason: there are people who do and it makes them money, so you’re being paid to work with it regardless.

Oof. I feel you on the sweetness. I've been a partner for about 3 months and I went from standard pumps to now maybe 2-3 pumps of syrup total in each drink.

Although right now I'm on an undertow kick with a half pump of syrup. I've discovered that a pup cup is the perfect size for one shot and a splash of milk.

The amount of negatives you got for saying you don't like matcha is incredibly annoying. I like matcha and I wouldn't downvote you just because you don't. Like...
When I first started 4 years ago I hated it. Hated the smell of it. Hated the look. Hated how it poofed when you would fill the container. Fast forward to present day, I drink it all the time. I dont even drink coffee anymore 🙈

Yeah I'm like "wait what?" when I saw all the negatives. I legitimately thought I was gonna get a bunch of "ooooo chocolate grass flavor topped with something that looks kinda like dirt" comments. Instead I'm still getting people coming at me over matcha and am basically getting told to drop the attitude.

Yeah, matcha and I don't really get along very well. I even got it in my hair when the bowl basically yeeted itself at another barista and I (we were both covered). Kinda ruined itself for me, even though I did give it a chance afterwards and tried tasting it in a drink.

Ok I hate matcha. But a matcha Frappuccino with frap chips is actually really good. Never tried it with drizzle but a matcha Frappuccino with frap chips and peppermint is delish.

I totally get that. My palate has already changed quite a bit. I can't see myself ever truly liking Starbucks matcha but I'll definitely give real matcha a chance! There was a thread somewhere in this comment section where someone was talking about green tea and matcha being the same basic thing so I want to give non-Starbucks brand matcha a try since I like some green teas. Also Starbucks matcha just tastes like grass to me. Are you saying that'll probably change?

Also, "strongly educated by people with taste" felt more like being strongly attacked on multiple sides over an ingredient... plus... maybe like 2 partners at my store like matcha so matcha isn't really super common at my store, even with the baristas (some of whom have been with Starbucks for years).

I've been told that! I just do not like Starbucks matcha. I'm going to (at some point) try the actual matcha tea that's the crushed tea leaves as per someone else's recommendation (somewhere in this comment section).

This is nothing. We have a customer that gets a venti Iced matcha with 10 scoops of matcha on top unshaken. Literally just a bed of matcha powder on top of milk. She apparently likes the crunch....

I'm assuming Starbucks matcha isn't real matcha? I've never tried anything other than Starbucks matcha. I live in a somewhat rural part of Indiana so don't have many options for food, and prior to living in this area I lived in an even more rural area where the only close option for food (other than a grocery store in a larger town 20 minutes away) was a gas station subway and a trucker diner.

Green tea = unoxidized black tea. Fresh green tea (not tea bags) will literally be green (not yellow like our iced teas). Matcha is grinded up green tea leaves. It’s stronger, tastes great, and actually quite healthy. The problem though is Starbucks uses low grade (everything, really) matcha. And our matcha powder isn’t pure matcha. If you look on the bag, the first ingredient on the list is sugar. Meaning it mostly contains sugar.

Oooooo that actually sounds good. I haven't been a huge tea drinker but I've found that I like our passion tea. Haven't tried the black or green teas yet though. I know I like Lipton Green Tea with Citrus (even though it's not real tea) so I'm expecting to at least somewhat like our green tea. Is real matcha anything like that? Or is it different?

My friend actually also got me a massive tea bag sampler container that I'm super excited to go through. I haven't quite seen everything in it but maybe there could be real matcha in there? I'll definitely give it another chance cuz I know there's a beyond huge difference between fast food and authentic food.

The original intent of the post was to make a joke about Starbucks matcha because it tastes like grass to me and I was confused on why they added caramel drizzle to something that is more of a tea.

I wasn't saying that others can't like matcha or can't like this particular drink. This was the first day that I had ever seen this drink. Matcha is not popular where I am at (rural area in Indiana) - most of our business are locals and truck drivers with some interstate travelers (we brew a LOT of Pike).

Well I felt like people needed responded to... and all of them were doing exactly what you're doing. Legitimately coming at me for not liking an *ingredient*. What are you hoping to accomplish here? Make me delete my post? Harass me into liking matcha?

You're saying I'm obnoxious... and yet if you've been reading my responses then you must have read where I've said I will give real matcha a chance. Starbucks matcha's first ingredient is sugar, not actual matcha. I think I'm allowed to not like a highly processed ingredient and yet I'm the obnoxious one?

Also if you were to make that post then I'd be like "you're entitled to your beliefs about black coffee but you gotta admit they're really easy to make". Frappuccinos are annoying to make. Starbucks matcha is dumb af to work with. Have a combination of the two and of course I'm gonna be like 🙄 but if people would drop it then guess what, maybe I'd stop having to defend myself.

Here's a hint. Stop being a troll and stop being obnoxious and hateful to me. You say you silently judge customers at work (you commented it in another post that I read but I'm sure you'll delete it), sounds like you also silently judge your fellow partners also.
