If I’m being honest that’s not the worst I’ve seen. Chocolate with matcha doesn’t even sound that bad, and the Carmel just adds a tacky sweetness.
Nomycheesi76 points1y ago
And I don’t wanna blow this out of proportion, but it’s sometimes annoying seeing other baristas kinda judging other peoples drinks? Like if it’s one of those ridiculous 12 pump of every syrup type drink yeah go ahead cuz it’s funny, but for drinks in this case where it’s just a little weird, it doesn’t warrant judgement. Just Bc u dont think it’ll taste good doesn’t mean it’s gross. Ok sorry I sound like such a baby, I’m not mad at this post just needed an excuse to rant 😞
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-31 points1y ago
I'm not judging. I just despise matcha with a fiery passion so any drinks with matcha instantly get a 🤢 reaction from me.
Backstory with the matcha. Another partner somehow broke the stand that it sits in while it's in its little bowl thing. It legit just snapped off, we don't know how it happened. Well guess who was standing next to that other barista and who also got covered in matcha powder. I'm talking *head-to-toe* covered... 🥲 I'm 99% sure I breathed in matcha powder through my mask.
Now... any drink that has matcha... I'm just like "get it awayyyyyyyyy"... much to the amusement of my coworkers. 🙄
I totally get what you're saying and ordinarily I don't judge. At least I try not to - but things with matcha are fair game for me 😅
Nomycheesi10 points1y ago
I’m sure that’s not what u meant haha. And yeah matcha powder is so annoying to work with.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
It is truly annoying to work with. It gets everywhere also when it spills 🥲
vulgar_witch32 points1y ago
That actually might be good
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-31 points1y ago
... if it was carmel then yes. Matcha? No. Absolutely not. I have a fond hatred for matcha and it returns the favor.
vulgar_witch14 points1y ago
I LOVE matcha. Works for me.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-5 points1y ago
Excellent. Come take all the matcha from my store. Please. 🙃
vulgar_witch6 points1y ago
Hell yeah!!
Seuno13924 points1y ago
wait... as a batista I used to drink this all the time.... is it that bad? lol
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-5 points1y ago
I just don't like matcha. Personally I think it looks gross due to the matcha. But if you like it then that's totally okay! 😊
angelgrl42017 points1y ago
Wait matcha with frapp chips sounds good 🥺 there are these waffle ice cream sandwiches I get at the Asian market and it’s matcha ice cream covered in a layer of chocolate and it’s soooo bomb so I can imagine the frap would be tasty too (no caramel tho 🤧)
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]0 points1y ago
I don't like matcha tho 🥲 but I totally respect your opinion! Please don't come at me 🥺 (I have a lot of people coming at me about matcha of all things)
I feel like I would seriously love that waffle ice cream sandwich if it came without matcha.
The caramel drizzle also definitely threw me off. It just looks... unappetizing on top.
angelgrl4205 points1y ago
No worries! Matcha is an acquired taste for sure, you either hate it or you love it LOL
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
For sure. I'm glad some understand!
I'm not trying to have an attitude or complain about something that is easy to make... 🥺
Coffeeaftersex15 points1y ago
This is NOT EVEN BAD. Just saying.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]0 points1y ago
... I've been dutifully informed already.
Like I've already said. You're allowed to like matcha just like I'm allowed to dislike matcha.
I've worked at Starbucks for 3 months. I've seen somewhat bad. I have not seen bad bad. Please do not come at me, I'm still a new barista 🥺
(This is in no way said with any attitude... I'm just tired of people legitimately giving me hate over an ingredient. Its been a long day. I'm tired. I'm a grad student and a barista so please don't take this in a bad way)
Coffeeaftersex12 points1y ago
I totally get where you're coming from, but I still had to share my opinion because it is a social platform after all, right?
You are fairly new, not yet fully roasted, but I wish you the best of luck with the Siren. It's one hell of a ride, some days are heavenly, whereas some days are horrendous. 😌
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]3 points1y ago
Absolutely still a social media platform. I appreciate you politely (and respectfully) sharing your opinion without insulting or being like "no! You're wrong!", etc.
You're a wonderful person. Thank you! 🙂
I wish you the best of luck also. I totally am understanding the horrendous versus heavenly. Hopefully more heavenly than horrendous happens for all of us at our various Siren places (that is strange wording but you know what I'm trying to say).
stealingsight15 points1y ago
It tastes like a green tea kit kat. Believe it or not, people are allowed to like things that you don’t.
kitcat12108 points1y ago
white mocha in a matcha latte tastes EXACTLY like matcha kitkats if u ever wanna try it. i was obsessed with those kitkats for a while so i was determined to find something that replicated it lol. i only ever tried it hot tho!
stealingsight2 points1y ago
Gotta try this next time I work! Awww your username too :’) hot drinks aren’t usually my thing but maybe this will be a hit
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-6 points1y ago
??? I didn't say they weren't allowed to like things I don't?
Are you saying I'm not allowed to say "hey I don't like this, here is what it is"?
Why are you being aggressive?
stealingsight8 points1y ago
LMAO your attitude is such a yikes, but whatever though I guess you can complain freely about making a drink that is neither hard nor annoying to make.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-4 points1y ago
Maybe you ought to take a look at your own attitude? You're coming at me for saying I don't like something that I don't have to like...
You're also being incredibly rude. I'm allowed to have opinions on things that I do not like. I'm sure you have things that you absolutely do not like and you complain about those.
I happen to not like matcha. It is not to my tastes. I'm not saying you're not allowed to like matcha. If you take a look upwards you'll see I spoke (quite pleasantly actually) with someone who loves matcha. That is their personal preference and I had no issues with them. You're starting something over legitimately nothing other than personal tastes.
stealingsight4 points1y ago
Your last sentence contradicts your argument lol— you’re doing exactly that. I’m just replying to it. If you are comfortable with creating this post I don’t see why you can’t be open minded to the opposite opinion. Idc if you don’t like matcha but be aware that Starbucks keeps it around for a reason: there are people who do and it makes them money, so you’re being paid to work with it regardless.
Lady_Retro8 points1y ago
Chocolate chips and peppermint syrup with matcha is like drinking a mint chocolate chip shake, so I'm sure this drink is just fine. Not gross at all.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-3 points1y ago
... for someone who doesn't like matcha I find it gross.
Personal preference. You're entitled to your own opinion, so am I.
I also really don't like mint... or peppermint. I'm weird.
ofcourseits-pines7 points1y ago
I have had this before I was a partner and really liked it. Now it’s a little too sweet for me.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]3 points1y ago
Oof. I feel you on the sweetness. I've been a partner for about 3 months and I went from standard pumps to now maybe 2-3 pumps of syrup total in each drink.
Although right now I'm on an undertow kick with a half pump of syrup. I've discovered that a pup cup is the perfect size for one shot and a splash of milk.
cobanat5 points1y ago
That’s not that bad at all. Actually I would recommend using peppermint to give it a minty flavor to it and I’d order this myself honestly
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]0 points1y ago
Oof. I don't really like peppermint/mint flavors... 😕 otherwise I'd try it!
odetoroses5 points1y ago
wasn’t this the old grasshopper frappuccino?
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Uhhhh... I'm not sure to be honest.
I'm only 3 months in at the Siren so I'm still learning the terminology and names for past drinks.
mama_bibi4 points1y ago
The amount of negatives you got for saying you don't like matcha is incredibly annoying. I like matcha and I wouldn't downvote you just because you don't. Like... When I first started 4 years ago I hated it. Hated the smell of it. Hated the look. Hated how it poofed when you would fill the container. Fast forward to present day, I drink it all the time. I dont even drink coffee anymore 🙈
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Yeah I'm like "wait what?" when I saw all the negatives. I legitimately thought I was gonna get a bunch of "ooooo chocolate grass flavor topped with something that looks kinda like dirt" comments. Instead I'm still getting people coming at me over matcha and am basically getting told to drop the attitude.
its_Lydia_3 points1y ago
Okay honestly this isn’t bad, it’s actually been on that secret menu website forever (except with like toffee nut or something also?) and it definitely works if you like the Starbucks matcha.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points1y ago
I really don't like matcha. Which is apparently unfortunate for me. 🤷♀️
its_Lydia_1 points1y ago
Eh then it’s fine, not everyone does lol
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Yeah, matcha and I don't really get along very well. I even got it in my hair when the bowl basically yeeted itself at another barista and I (we were both covered). Kinda ruined itself for me, even though I did give it a chance afterwards and tried tasting it in a drink.
impasse6023 points1y ago
Its more common than you think at my store
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Matcha isn't super common at my store. We get maybe 3-4 people a day who order it.
impasse6022 points1y ago
I wish i had ppl like that i think matcha is gross it tatses like grass
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
It does indeed taste of grass.
Lharris95022 points1y ago
That is the most disgusting concoction I’ve ever seen
TheRealMackie2 points1y ago
Ok I hate matcha. But a matcha Frappuccino with frap chips is actually really good. Never tried it with drizzle but a matcha Frappuccino with frap chips and peppermint is delish.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
... interesting. 🤔
I don't like matcha (obviously) but now I might make myself one of these just to see... even though I don't quite like peppermint but maybe two flavor combinations might make it work?
[deleted]2 points1y ago
It's like....when you don't like Matcha...but you want to like matcha....so you try to make it taste better.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points1y ago
This. 😂
audrey_mae_2 points1y ago
why is it always green tea frappuccino’s with the worst mods😭😭
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points1y ago
I dunno 😭😭😭 apparently the java chips are good but I'm still stuck on the caramel drizzle mod.
audrey_mae_1 points1y ago
we have a regular that gets a green tea frappuccino with sfv, 4 affogato shots, strawberry puree, and heavy cream💀💀
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
... 💀💀💀
I - how is that good? Are they okay?
whimsicallatteart2 points1y ago
we had a customer who would call this the shrek frap
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Shrek is awesome! 😊 I assume you guys knew which one was the Shrek frappuccino? I feel like I'd either know as soon as the customer said it OR I'd have the equivalent of a loading bar/circle pop up above my head as I process what he said 😅
Meggilli912 points1y ago
You’ve been at Starbucks 3 months….don’t post things like this if you can’t handle being strongly educated by people with taste. I’m telling you now, your palate will change the longer you’re with the company.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points1y ago
I totally get that. My palate has already changed quite a bit. I can't see myself ever truly liking Starbucks matcha but I'll definitely give real matcha a chance! There was a thread somewhere in this comment section where someone was talking about green tea and matcha being the same basic thing so I want to give non-Starbucks brand matcha a try since I like some green teas. Also Starbucks matcha just tastes like grass to me. Are you saying that'll probably change?
Also, "strongly educated by people with taste" felt more like being strongly attacked on multiple sides over an ingredient... plus... maybe like 2 partners at my store like matcha so matcha isn't really super common at my store, even with the baristas (some of whom have been with Starbucks for years).
drinkliquidclocks2 points1y ago
It's delicious with chips, but I'd definitely pass on the caramel drizzle. Add some peppermint and it takes like mint chocolate ice cream
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-1 points1y ago
I've been told that! I just do not like Starbucks matcha. I'm going to (at some point) try the actual matcha tea that's the crushed tea leaves as per someone else's recommendation (somewhere in this comment section).
LycaenopsPictus2 points1y ago
At my first store we called this a Grasshopper!
(Though there was 1 pump peppermint added. Back in the old days when we had peppermint...)
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
RIP peppermint.
paigemclachlan2 points1y ago
And on today’s episode of “what flavour combo is the customer going for?”…
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points1y ago
I was thinking maybe chocolate-covered grass...? Or maybe not? I dunno.
However, I've been informed by quite a lot of people that it isn't gross and not the worst thing. I also apparently have an attitude.
paigemclachlan2 points1y ago
😂
keylimerose1 points1y ago
sorry to be that person but i feel like its kinda unethical to take out ur phone on shift and take a photo of someone’s drink before handing it off , ,
[deleted]1 points1y ago
I have someone that does this its actually good.
mouldy_fingers1 points1y ago
This is nothing. We have a customer that gets a venti Iced matcha with 10 scoops of matcha on top unshaken. Literally just a bed of matcha powder on top of milk. She apparently likes the crunch....
SpinachLegal1 points1y ago
Aside from the caramel drizzle this looks amazing
Realistickmhart9971 points1y ago
I put Java chips in my matcha Frappuccino but with peppermint syrup. Tastes so good.. Haven't tried it with caramel though.
wendywendy51 points1y ago
ngl I like making these type of drinks, just so simple
capybaraRage1 points1y ago
Jave chips and (when we have it, peppermint) in a gree tea frappuccino tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream! This is nothing
miakodank1 points1y ago
This is like so mild.. matcha n chocolate so what
SlushyPenguin821 points1y ago
Oh believe me. This isn’t as bad as the regular my store had that got almond milk, 8 scoops of matcha and a shot of espresso. We tried it to see what he was getting and it was worse than this
zombiecabbage1 points1y ago
This sounds delicious?
NoFaceAllex1 points1y ago
people order this drink at my store every day, i personally think it’s too much but it’s nothing out of the ordinary. The worst thing i’ve had to make is a Mango Dragonfruit with espresso and vanilla bean-
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
A mango dragon with ESPRESSO?! Wut?! 🤢
TheatreAS1 points1y ago
This is actually super good. Ngl
StrategyExotic76501 points1y ago
it’s actually so good lol when we had peppermint and you added frappe chips to the matcha frapp it tasted like mint chocolate chip😵💫
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
I'll have to try it even though I don't quite like peppermint but maybe the flavor combinations make it work?
StrategyExotic76502 points1y ago
yes I promise it’s delicious!
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Awesome. I'll have to try it! Thanks 😊
[deleted]1 points1y ago

SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]-3 points1y ago
... why am I being down-voted? 😔
Am I not allowed to hate matcha? I've had it legitimately all over me from it falling off a shelf, bouncing off the counter, and the powder exploding outwards in a wave of green envy desperate to ensure I wear green everywhere...
Machokeabitch3 points1y ago
Cool story. Real matcha is a delicacy.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
I'm assuming Starbucks matcha isn't real matcha? I've never tried anything other than Starbucks matcha. I live in a somewhat rural part of Indiana so don't have many options for food, and prior to living in this area I lived in an even more rural area where the only close option for food (other than a grocery store in a larger town 20 minutes away) was a gas station subway and a trucker diner.
Machokeabitch3 points1y ago
Green tea = unoxidized black tea. Fresh green tea (not tea bags) will literally be green (not yellow like our iced teas). Matcha is grinded up green tea leaves. It’s stronger, tastes great, and actually quite healthy. The problem though is Starbucks uses low grade (everything, really) matcha. And our matcha powder isn’t pure matcha. If you look on the bag, the first ingredient on the list is sugar. Meaning it mostly contains sugar.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Also the "low grade (everything, really)" made my morning. You're absolutely correct on that.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Oooooo that actually sounds good. I haven't been a huge tea drinker but I've found that I like our passion tea. Haven't tried the black or green teas yet though. I know I like Lipton Green Tea with Citrus (even though it's not real tea) so I'm expecting to at least somewhat like our green tea. Is real matcha anything like that? Or is it different?
My friend actually also got me a massive tea bag sampler container that I'm super excited to go through. I haven't quite seen everything in it but maybe there could be real matcha in there? I'll definitely give it another chance cuz I know there's a beyond huge difference between fast food and authentic food.
drinkliquidclocks2 points1y ago
The entire thread is you complaining about an ingredient you dislike and having absolutely no constructive conversation lmfao
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]0 points1y ago
... I just do not like Starbucks matcha.
The original intent of the post was to make a joke about Starbucks matcha because it tastes like grass to me and I was confused on why they added caramel drizzle to something that is more of a tea.
I wasn't saying that others can't like matcha or can't like this particular drink. This was the first day that I had ever seen this drink. Matcha is not popular where I am at (rural area in Indiana) - most of our business are locals and truck drivers with some interstate travelers (we brew a LOT of Pike).
drinkliquidclocks0 points1y ago
I don't like black coffee but I'm not going to post a photo of a plain pike and be like "eEeWW !!🤮" and then reply to every single comment to let everyone know I hate black coffee. That would be obnoxious.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]0 points1y ago
Well I felt like people needed responded to... and all of them were doing exactly what you're doing. Legitimately coming at me for not liking an *ingredient*. What are you hoping to accomplish here? Make me delete my post? Harass me into liking matcha?
You're saying I'm obnoxious... and yet if you've been reading my responses then you must have read where I've said I will give real matcha a chance. Starbucks matcha's first ingredient is sugar, not actual matcha. I think I'm allowed to not like a highly processed ingredient and yet I'm the obnoxious one?
Also if you were to make that post then I'd be like "you're entitled to your beliefs about black coffee but you gotta admit they're really easy to make". Frappuccinos are annoying to make. Starbucks matcha is dumb af to work with. Have a combination of the two and of course I'm gonna be like 🙄 but if people would drop it then guess what, maybe I'd stop having to defend myself.
Here's a hint. Stop being a troll and stop being obnoxious and hateful to me. You say you silently judge customers at work (you commented it in another post that I read but I'm sure you'll delete it), sounds like you also silently judge your fellow partners also.
