Sedgwick Problems (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by yabyba
I recently got injured at work, I think I either broke or dislocated my finger and need to go get it looked at. My SM said to file a claim with Sedgwick and they would give me doctors I could visit that would they would cover the cost for. I filed the claim and they sent me the paperwork with the doctors and clinics I could see. One of the clinics they provided didn’t exist anymore, called their number and it was shut down. They gave me another number to a clinic ran by two doctors, I called that number and the one doctor didn’t even exist, the other was a cardiologist who didn’t even look at workers comp patients. I called Sedgwick back and they said they would call me back with a list of new providers. It’s been hours and have heard nothing. Would I just be able to go to a urgent care on my own and get my finger looked at? Would they cover the cost if it ended up being broken and I provided a doctors note? I’m confused how this whole process works.

Call your DM. Usually with workers Comp you HAVE to go to their providers-in part because the company contracts with the Worker's Comp Provider and then they have their own separate contracts with those providers. It's like a separate insurance policy.
Check with your DM to see if they can authorize any sort of work around-and Get It In Writing to protect yourself from out of pocket expenses.
As it stands, if you just go to your own, you'd foot the bill and then if it was finally sorted by worker's comp, they would try to claim the unauthorized provider caused (or exacerbated) the injury. Would deny the medical claim, and you also wouldn't get any covered time off-meaning you'd have to take your sick time.
