Just ignore him. I’m older than you and working at Starbucks and we’re all low wage slaves at this point.
Eventually he’ll fall off his high horse and get kicked in the head when he realized some day he too will be 25.
moxaritapizza128 points1y ago
Half the partners at my store are between 22 and 27. I’m 26. It’s a god damn pandemic and we’re just all trying to get by. How old is this kid? Maybe hit him with the “damn, you’re so young, do you even know anything?”
liz-can-too66 points1y ago
“Does your mother know that you’re out?”

“You closing? Isn’t it a school night?”
FoxyOnTheRun_2 points1y ago
“you‘ll understand when you’re older”
zzid2d21100 points1y ago
At 25 your car insurance is cheaper… and I have purses older than him. Ignore the zygote, he’s just plain rude.
FfierceLaw43 points1y ago
Zygote, lol, I’m stealing that! Not even a fetus
badatlife1580 points1y ago
I’m 35 and have a masters degree, people have been in awe of why I work here, for me it’s I have a fulfilling full time job, that at the time I went full time there did not offer health insurance and is a little less than what I need financially, so Starbucks offering insurance for part timers is perfect. Although a little over a year later it’s losing its appeal
jdsalingersdog10 points1y ago
Can I ask how many hours a week you work?
badatlife1524 points1y ago
Typically right around 20 hrs at Starbucks, although more and more I’ve been ok with coworkers taking a shift from me here and there to make it less. My full time job was 40 hours until we added someone new and currently it’s around 36.
jdsalingersdog12 points1y ago
Thank you! I’ve been one foot in one foot out with this and 2 other part-time jobs. Was looking to keep one day at Starbucks but learned they have a 12 hour per week minimum so deciding what my next step will be. Thanks for your response!
Pontiff_Pineapple3 points1y ago
I’ve been working only one shift per week, usually 4-6 hours, since the start of the pandemic. I know the 12 hour minimum rule does exist but managers have some discretion.
_Pulltab_5 points1y ago
Same here - in my 40’s, have a masters but pursuing another. I carry insurance for my kid who has special needs and add a little to the family income while I’m in school.
I also agree, after a couple of years, I’m getting worn down.
Edited: a word
After_Bar611136 points1y ago
I have a coworker who’s been with Starbucks for over 30 years and half my store is over 25... you’re good my guy
riilss31 points1y ago
I’m the youngest at my store at 21. I have multiple partners in their 60-70s and are fantastic. Screw what that guy says
butteredbuttons25 points1y ago
25 isnt even old wtf? was he in high school or something? anyways i would just ignore him, he’ll realize everyone’s suffering this corporate hellhole here no matter their age
sugartea6314 points1y ago
Im a 29 year old doctorate student to works there. Half my coworkers are older than me.

Treat him like a baby who is clueless whenever you all talk, that'll show him some humility. Also you don't have to be a certain age to work at Starbucks, you just must have skill and patience
nowateramericano10 points1y ago
Wow... I am 30, there are only two other people older than me in my store. My Store Manager is in her late 40s and we have another partner who is almost 60. I do feel older than most of the “kids” there. But with that said, most are very mature and responsible.
When I tell fellow partners and customers that I am actually a nurse, but don’t want to work in healthcare they are flabbergasted but understand the need to have a job that a person can enjoy.
Mayachees3 points1y ago
Hi! I also have a nursing degree and don’t want to work in health care. I try not to tell people because of the “why are you working here!!??” Comments.
I’m 41 and have been working at Starbucks for almost 4 years. I actually don’t *hate* the job. There are aspects I dislike of course.
HengroenAndLlamrei10 points1y ago
Men who can’t get laid say this type of thing to women to make themself feel better about their sad-sack self. Don’t spare it another thought.
darrinH9210 points1y ago
I honestly have no idea going of of looks I'd say early twenties but still
OneRoseDark22 points1y ago
If he thinks 25 is old he is probably 19.
GinaMohundro9 points1y ago
I have store partners older than me and I turned 40 in April. Let your SM know he’s making partners uncomfortable by asking ages and placing judgement on the answers. Eff that.
ObnoxiousR9 points1y ago
Bruh we have a 50+ yearold at my store. . . . . Ok.
ellsb3lls8 points1y ago
25 isn’t even old…
darrinH929 points1y ago
Right!!! Like I'm not really bothered by the age remark more or less about him opening his mouth and what he said after like bro do you even think before you talk
designated-grapes8 points1y ago
I love being one of the oldest at my store at 32! I am "Mom" to everyone and I get to see youth through their eyes.
hctiB_bmuD7 points1y ago
I'm sure this kid is around my age range and I would like to apologize on his behalf. What gives someone the need to say something like that 😒
Bieb6 points1y ago
I foresee a rude wake up call in that persons future when they become “old” lol
shinymutt5 points1y ago
He's just being a little bitch, probably because deep down he knows he's annoying and intolerable.
witchbitchcraft5 points1y ago
That guys an asshole, I’m sorry he made you feel that way. I’m not the oldest person at my store, but I’m 28. People like that don’t understand that we still our whole lives ahead of us, shit happens to us that can set us back and we’re just trying to live our lives.
PricklyDangerNoodle5 points1y ago
I worked with plenty of partners who were in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s back in the day. Don’t pay attention to this joker.

I've worked with people here all the way from 16-74. Don't listen to him.
Tha_jphil3 points1y ago
Also 25, you’re not old!!
ChezShea3 points1y ago
Well shit, I guess at 38 I’ve got one foot in the grave. Us old folks like working the bux for a variety of reasons including just liking it. I’ve been a barista off and on for almost 20 years and I always miss it when I leave.
julcarls3 points1y ago
He equates a job title with status and value and believes one should achieve more status and value via a "better job" before 25. Everything about that is ridiculous, nobody is too old to work a certain job (with exception to really physically demanding jobs). Basically he feels worthless for working at Starbucks because he's brainwashed to believe his personality and worth are a job and he's projecting it onto you. You're amazing. Keep doing what you're doing.
Mayachees3 points1y ago
25 is still a baby! I’m 41. We have a partner that is a grandma (50s) and some partners in their 30s. Yes the majority are early 20s, but so what 🤷🏼♀️.
rudebii3 points1y ago
People at all ages need the kind of flexible job that the bux provides. Sounds like a dumb kid.
ItzBoogieMan3 points1y ago
Kid is a ungrateful shite
Kivic3 points1y ago
I’m older and I work here. It’s good benefits and opportunities for a career and education that I didn’t have when I was younger
Bright_Earth_82823 points1y ago
Not at Starbucks, but when I was 28, I worked for a company that basically hired people fresh out of college. One girl went up to me and asked me if I was old. I told her it was all relative and she was immediately embarrassed about it.
Fast forward I’m now 42 and in a career where the median age is over 55. I always keep in mind it’s all relative.
silversungoddess3 points1y ago
Ignore them. I’ve been the oldest partner at my store for a while now, even older than my SMs until our newest SM who is 1 year older than me! But sometimes I love how they keep me in the loop and make me feel younger
[deleted] [OP]3 points1y ago
Lol thats actually young 25 to 35 young still. I am told I look a child I am older than you lol.
wandering_mind_2 points1y ago
Poor thing…reality is just waiting to hit him hard when it’s his time to fully experience the real world. Don’t pay him any mind.
ugholivia2 points1y ago
I have people at my store who are older, have kids etc. and one girl goes around telling everyone that if they do this job as anything more than part time that they are pathetic. I want her to say it to one of the women who will fight her
aliencaddy2 points1y ago
I’m 27 and just started this week. Don’t feel bad.
FfierceLaw2 points1y ago
So that's why he's proud of himself? Being 17? Well he's on thin ice. Plus he has no concept of a "safe" Third Place. Is he only agist or is he also homophobic, transphobic, sexist? Racist?
kpriestess192 points1y ago
Kids like him will learn about life the hard way. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up still working a service job at 25.......Not that I think there's any shame in it at all.
MrsClaireUnderwood2 points1y ago
I can't imagine something I'd care less about. I work with a bunch of young people now, and I also worked at Starbucks while I was "young", and boy are those baristas typically dumb as fuck. Why let the opinion of some teenager affect you at all?
darrinH922 points1y ago
It's not so much the age remark it's more of the thought of like does he even think before he opens his mouth

SpAcEcAt_942 points1y ago
I'm a 27 year old grad student and single mom who works for Starbucks and I'm not the oldest by far. Three of our baristas as well as one of our shifts, our 2 ASMs, and our SM has been with Starbucks for 12-16 years. The SM has been with Starbucks the longest (16 years) which is the age of our youngest barista. The oldest barista is 65 and says "Starbucks is so I don't get bored and stuck to a chair all day at home" (then she laughs). The other ones that have been here a while (12-16 years) are all in their upper 30s to 40s. So don't worry, you're not old by any means.
painfuldisposition2 points1y ago
what?????? 25 is not old??? i’m 19 and a lot of my coworkers are between 22-27. wtf ?
Booyah_72 points1y ago
Just tell him "Okay Zoomer".
gazely_stare2 points1y ago
I'm actually almost 30. Like months.
If some teenybopper told me off for acting like a goddamn adult and working so I don't have to be a complete parasite on my family, I'd laugh. A lot. Loud. It's kinda funny that they don't understand what adult responsibility means, or why that might mean working a fast food job at my age - I used to be that innocent and ignorant. They've advertised how little value their opinion holds. Don't assign it more.
MrWisdom392 points1y ago
Funny enough I went to the dentist today and she asked me where I worked and I said Starbucks. I’m 26 and considered it part time. This woman must have another 10 years on me and said she wished she worked at Starbucks for the benefits. And I’m like wait a tick.. u don’t get any benefits here working as a dental technician…. Her answered was surprisingly no. So, moral of the story is don’t let brats like your coworker decide what is in and what isn’t. I personally believe Starbucks should have older employees so your store has better standards than a bunch of high schooler running it. My store has a very diverse range of ages and we don’t judge each other for it.
Green_barista_front2 points1y ago
I’m almost 42 and have been working at Starbucks since October. I’ve seen partners working older than me. As long as you’re physically able it doesn’t matter how old you are.
fiercequeenathena2 points1y ago
Uh, I'm 28 and I've been working here the same amount of time as you.
Several of my coworkers are in their 30s or older.
25 is still young.
miitopia_emblem2 points1y ago
Is he a new hire? That attitude reeks of high turnover, I doubt he’d even last 2.5 months
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
There is a partner at my store a few years younger than me who used to call me old and make fun of me for being financially responsible. In a few years you will be my age except with no money and excessive debt???
Then there was also a partner who is younger than me and would gripe about being old all the time (we are in our 20s). They would say “you’ll understand when you get old” and I would have to set them straight that I was actually older.
