green bean needs advice (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greenbeanfridge
hi guys, i just need some help. i’ve been with the siren for about a month and a half (320*****) and i feel like im *already* hitting a plateau. i feel most comfortable on bar (my store is smaller and i work nights so one person on bar is pretty standard) and my SSVs are usually pretty cool about keeping me on bar, and my old SM (she recently transferred) expressed how well i was doing on bar. however, one of the SSV puts me on DTO/DTR/warming every single time we work together so i can get more comfortable with it. i completely understand her approach and i’m not saying it’s illogical. i just get so overstimulated in DTO/DTR SO easily and someone always has to come take over for me. it just makes me feel helpless. any advice on becoming more comfortable/register tips??

Just like you sequence at bar, sequence at DTO/DTR/Warming. Don’t let customers knock you out of your cadence. Just as much as you’re there providing service, they want to be there to buy something. A few extra seconds before you take an order/handoff won’t ruin someone’s day.

i know she means well, i just think i take it too personally. part of me thinks i need to be there more for practice but part of me says if it makes me literally cry i am just better off elsewhere. i’ll try talking to her though, thank you!

I think you need to have a conversation with a specific shift because there is a difference of them wanting you to get a hang of that position versus you being extremely and justifiably uncomfortable. I’m not saying you should ask to never be put on there but that the time you spend on DTO/DTR is significantly reduced. If this is a condition you have you could even get a medical exemption. I think this is a conversation that needs to be had.
