Is it worth it? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by JustViolet12_7_2_20
I have a lot of customer service and hospitality experience.
Im thinking of applying to Starbucks for my last semester of college.
So what's it like?
How are the tips?
Do they offer insurance for part time?
How stressful of an environment is it?

Do it!!! They do offer health benefits for part time (I think 20 hours a week is the threshold? It might be lower this year). Being a barista is fun. Free coffee is *fantastic*. Flexible schedules are nice.

I worked there for a year and recently got hired back this month. Starbucks is fun but customers can be hell, tips are good but depends on the week. It can be stressful because of DTR times or because it’s fast paced but having fun coworkers and an awesome manager definitely helps. If you apply, I’d suggest applying to your closest cafes and seeing which place you vibe with the most. I knew I was in the right spot when the workers were really sweet when I got there for my interview.

Honestly, it really depends on the store, but it can be worth it! For your last semester of college, I’d definitely try a local café too.

Before this hellstorm of being out of quite literally 70% of the menu, Starbucks was a wonderful job. Always something new to do! It is no longer that dream. You’re always getting yelled at for being out of something, your food is never fully stocked, and for the love of god, no, we do not have Very Berry Refresher. If it was any other point in the company I would say yes, but not right now. So many stores have cut their hours almost in half (my store hours are 6-2 usually 5-9) and we have probably 4 constant syrups. Please work somewhere else for your sake.

It totally depends on the store. If you like the vibe at a location you frequent, it’ll probably be fun. It’s usually very fast-paced so be prepared for that. But yes they offer insurance to part-time and there are lots of good benefits (Google them). If morning shifts work for you I find it really easy to balance work and school.

It’s a fun company to work for, but things are more challenging than usual right now. It also depends so much store to store. If nothing else, it’s really fun to learn all of the Starbucks secrets even if you’re just there for a little while :)
