ISO: Funny, tragic, scary, and dramatic barista stories! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by blue-haired-barista
Context: I'm a barista, who also happems to be a writer, and I want to collect as many little stories as I can so I can create a book! I of course have my own share of stories working at Starbucks, but I'd really like to hear others' experiences so I can write a whole bunch of different scenarios.

My plan for this book is to make it a romance between two baristas and tell a story of how they navigate their lives through the job. I need DRAMA. I need CONFLICT. Please spill the tea, I am in desprate need of material to advance the plot of my book.

You can either comment here or DM me, whatever is most comfortable for you!

Thank you for your help, fellow partners ♡

Today I called out a GRANDE caramel latte several times, a guy asked if it was his and I said "grande caramel latte?" He stepped back. Five minutes later he complained about how he didn't get his grande caramel latte yet, and I said "that's it there" and he LOST it. Fully screaming in my face about how he thought I said BRANDE as if that's even a thing?? Luckily he said he had a train to catch so I said "that's your drink, better run if you want to make your train" and he screamed FU€KING IDIOT and left. I heard his friend ask what it was about and then say "no, she said grande" and they had a little laugh... Bc screaming at a woman half your size and age is SO funny. Had to go have a little cry in the back lmao.

ETA kinda wanna make this its own post so people can suffer with me lmao

I shared this story a while back on this subreddit but I don’t mind sharing again.
Back in 2016 I worked at a Krobucks. At the time I was not in the best place mentally (just got kicked out at 17, drugs, ED, etc.)… so, while I don’t excuse any of this behavior, it’s a bit amusing to look back on.

It was a busy day and I was working by myself. My manager had just went on her break. That entire day I had encountered some rude customers and my manager was picking out random things she thought we needed to work on (she was hired with way less experience than me). Needless to say I was at my wits end.
A lady approached the register, phone up to her ears, yapping about whatever was more important than putting the phone down to order.
I ask “what can I get for you?” and she scoffs that I had the audacity to interrupt her conversation.
“Ummm, I’ll have a 12 ounce coffee”
I asked if she would like any room for cream. Totally ignored, so I just assumed no.
I said “that’ll be $2.08”
She laid 2 $1 bills on the counter and started to walk away.
At that point, the last tiny bit of patience I had for humanity and my will to live flew out the window.
I screamed: “I SAID $2.08 YOU STUPID BITCH!” and slammed the register so hard that the till few out of the drawer, sending all of the money all over the floor.
The lady looked back at me like I had just murdered her children or something.
The floral department manager (who happened to be my bus driver in high school lol) looked over at me with a look of horror and I said “FUCK THIS PLACE! IM OUT!”
On my way to the door I slid my hand behind both containers of straws on the handoff pane and flung them into the air. Straws were literally raining down over the kiosk and produce department. I walked to the nearest gas station and broke down, realizing what had just happened during my blind rage. I was now living with people I barely knew, and now could be kicked out again because I didn’t have a job. It was overwhelming.
Luckily, Kroger called back a few days later, asking if I would like to come speak with the store manager and my union representative (I was a part for Kroger’s union), and I went to meet with them.
We talked for about 2 hours and I came clean about pretty much everything going on in my life. They were very understanding and said they didn’t realize how much I had been struggling. They agreed to take me back and actually proceeded to pay for 6 counseling sessions through their partnership with Kaiser. It was very nice actually.
Looking back on this time in my life can sometimes spark a lot of trauma, but looking back at moments like these make me giggle to myself a little. I had simply had enough, and for good reason. Like I said, not acceptable behavior, but if you would’ve been there you would understand lol. Thanks for reading!

The other morning I was on CS. We'd been out of blonde and somebody had labeled regular beans as blonde after opening them. I refilled a hopper, then realized, "hey, this isn't blonde." The person who had opened it had also filled a hopper. 7:30 AM and I have the vacuum out, but it's full and won't suck up any more beans. I go to dump it out, get beans all over the floor, and put the hose back on. Turn on the machine.
I put it on the wrong side of the vacuum so it blows instead of sucks. It fires a shower of old beans all over my partner and the drive bar.
