Thinking about applying for SV...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by That-funny_feeling
So I’ve only been at Starbucks since June, but I have a lot of service industry/customer service experience so I took to the job pretty quickly & I’m very good on bar for a green bean. My coworkers seem impressed with me, especially the SV’s & our SM. They’re encouraging me to apply for an SV position that would start in October. I guess I’m just looking for advice/opinions/honesty about being an SV, if it’s worth it & important things to keep in mind. I’ve already been studying a lot of our store materials on it, but real person input is always more valuable to me! Thanks y’all 💚

I was a new hire for an SV position! My training took quite a bit longer because I had to learn how to be a barista and how to be an SV at the same time. 2 months in, and I feel pretty good about it now! If you feel confident, I would say go for it. Do you feel like you have a good store manager who will support you?

Yes! I really like my SM. She’s super supportive & actually trained me to be a barista too! We have a great relationship already.

If you’re confident, sure why not. It’s always worth a shot. You are expected to be kind of a “know it all” as a shift, setting examples and the standard and partners will come up to you with plenty of questions so applying with 4 months of experience may not be the best but always worth applying. Of course you learn on the job every day and will keep learning with time

That expectation isn’t everywhere I don’t think. My store has a great team dynamic and as a shift I ask my baristas questions all the time. I know I’m not more knowledgeable than most of them I just have a few random added responsibilities.

I've been there since 21st June and honestly, if you would feel confident doing it, go for it! That said, I personally would feel it was too soon, sometimes I even get caught not knowing what a drink is. I'd want to get a better feel for the store first, before going for promotion. Good luck with whatever you choose!
