Do you charge for milks in shaken espressos or iced coffee with milk(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Few_Conclusion_8824
I just need to know where the majority of partners are, I only charge if it’s more than 4 oz Edit: the button for iced coffee with milk charges for milk on the app, the button shows up on the left for the pos indicating milk alternatives should be charged
Edit 2: there was a weekly update saying to charge for milk alternatives in the shaken espresso. That being said milk alts for brown sugar and chocolate almond milk are rung up on the Left side but not additionally up charged
I used to not charge for milk with the shaken espressos but the system has milks rung up on the left rather than the right so to me that says Starbucks wants us to charge and that it’s more than 4 oz. I could be wrong but that’s just what makes sense to me on the POS.

An iced coffee with milk is the same way though would you charge for that?
medusas-garden5 points1y ago
I actually hadn’t realized that. I’ll take a look at it again when I go in tomorrow.
Edit: I just checked the app and it does charge for milk for an iced coffee with milk. I guess that implies they want more than 4oz but I don’t think customers realize that if they’re mobile ordering. I won’t charge for milk like that if it’s less than four ounces. For the shaken espresso however there isn’t really an alternative like that on the app so I’m still gonna charge for milk on that one.

The standard is to not charge for iced coffee but I think I remember a weekly update a while ago about charging for nondairy in shaken espressos?
shosh_c1 points1y ago
Yup

I never used to charge for a different milk than 2% for the Starbucks doubleshot on ice since it was really a splash, and I’ve carried that over to the new shaken espressos. I’m always making sure we charge ppl correctly for everything to avoid confusion, but this is always an exception since it’s confusing imo but the iced coffee is a splash fr so no charge
here_forthefun5 points1y ago
Exactly. I used to never charge for doubleshots since it was a splash of milk, less than 4 oz even for ventis, but I charge for the shaken espresso since it’s what the weekly update said to do 🤷♀️. I don’t find it fair to charge for shaken espresso though since it’s a splash just like the doubleshot

We normally don’t charge for a splash of any milk, but nondairy milks are charged for drinks that use a lot of milk such as lattes.
For iced coffee, we shouldn’t charge, even if it’s nondairy. For a shaken espresso, we have to charge.
Flowerfuls4 points1y ago
I do charge since it shows in the left. If I ring the beverage up and milk is on left then I presume that is standards. 🤷♀️
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]2 points1y ago
But the milk is also on the left for the pos button iced coffee with milk
Flowerfuls4 points1y ago
Nobody in my store uses that button tbh. We just wrong up iced coffee then splash of X etc. so it’s really only shaken espressos I charge for.
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]2 points1y ago
But the button is there nonetheless and the standard doesn’t particularly change.
Flowerfuls2 points1y ago
It is. But I don’t use it often. Most people don’t want that much milk in iced coffees. And while I think the brown sugar espresso could be comped for cheaper using the other side. Chocolate almond doesn’t really foam up thag well in my experiences. So it is getting that charge worth of milk. Unless someone tells me otherwise I’m sticking to that sort of mixed routine.
TubingGenocidee2 points1y ago
Standard is only charge for more than 4oz regardless of alternative milks
Babeyy_Olivia2 points1y ago
For the iced coffee I hit the “with [milk type]” button but for the shaken espresso I hit the [milk] button, for the shaken espresso it’ll only charge if it’s a non-dairy. I just do it that way because the shaken espresso always comes with milk while the iced coffee does not.
nerdyoats1 points1y ago
I don't charge for milk in iced coffee UNLESS it's an alt milk or if they ask for extra cream/milk.
andersonm4991 points1y ago
If it comes standard with milk(lattes, fraps, etc) I’m charging If it doesn’t have milk I’m adding at no charge( iced coffee, cold brew, hot coffee)
somewheredaydreaming1 points1y ago
Any milk substitute gets charged for. If the milk goes in as cream and is 4oz or less it's not charged. Any extra creamer i.e. more than 4oz gets charged. However.... We used to have cream available at the condiment station for free so logically to me creamer should be free unless used as a substitute. 🤷🏻♀️
SilverXiao1 points1y ago
I charge for shaken espresso because it usually ends up being more than 4oz and if it's in the same color group it doesnt charge anyway. I dont for iced coffee or cold brew, unless the ask for "ExTrA cReAm" and they want half of their coffee to be milk. However, I will never charge for cream in hot coffee.
uh-no-why1 points1y ago
I thought that they originally said to charge for the shaken espressos, but because customers got so upset they changed it? I don’t know anymore, I don’t charge them for it.
gleeful11 points1y ago
There is no difference in the menu price between Iced Coffee and Iced Coffee with Milk.
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]1 points1y ago
But what about when you add a milk alternative? Do you charge or no? Everyone’s reasoning to charging for the espresso so far has been that it’s rung up on the left side. The official ruling that I just saw in an old weekly update though is that the shaken espresso is to be charged for dairy alternatives which despite disagreeing with I will now do for the sake of uniformity among starbucks

I'm always on register but I gave no idea what I'm doing... Whatever it does by default I guess 😅😅
FfierceLaw0 points1y ago
I don’t think half of us or any of our customers appreciate the difference between iced coffee with milk and iced coffee with a splash
martinifather0 points1y ago
I never charge iced coffee w milk/cold brew w milk idk I was never trained to do it. My GM said we technically are supposed to if they get milk but no one does. But the shaken espresso I do.
I kinda wish we had better training on this so there would be some type of uniform in how we charge and it would greatly reduce the “but the other Starbucks doesn’t charge” complaints
martinifather0 points1y ago
especially I never charge when they ask for more than 4oz of half and half because like we used to keep the carafes out anyways and people could take as much as they wanted so ??
