yall tell me what i shouldve done(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by aenyuhh
I’m like 3 weeks in so is the first time I’ve encountered a pretty difficult customer.
I was on window and lady who ordered an iced caramel macchiato (decaf, alt milk) pulls up saying to please hurry up because we took too long and she’s having a heart attack. Her drink was like ~$6.80 and she gives it to me in change.
When I was counting up the coins I noticed that one of the coins she gave me was Brazilian currency and that would make her short by less an a dollar so I didn’t tell her anything and just accepted it. If she was having a heart attack I was not about to make her more stressed by asking for just a little bit more. She gets her macchiato and then I waved her goodbye.
She didn’t leave though and asked me how much her drink was. The order already went through so I asked her to wait a moment while I went to the closed order screen and then she said “I gave you $7 so how much was my drink” and while I was looking for her closed order she grumpily went “nevermind its ok” and drove away.
I felt so bad. Did I do the right thing?

If she was actually having a heart attack she wouldn’t be in a starbucks drive thru. She was just being impatient. You handled it well, just ignore people like that.

Customers need to realize that we’re there to serve coffee and drinks, not to save your life. Some of the most dumbest people ever come through Starbucks.

Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind when the next one inevitably comes :”) actually what makes it worse is that I told my SM to hurry up without telling her why (she was dt bar) but that wasnt really relevant to the story so I left it out of the post :D

"Oh my God! You're having a heart attack?? I'll call 911!!"
is_it_soy51 points1y ago
“I’ll call an ambulance and **cancel** your order right away!”
silversungoddess42 points1y ago
This would’ve been me. I would’ve offered to call an ambulance for her as she shouldn’t be driving while “having a heart attack”
However. My guess is she was just being rude.
luvhen53 points1y ago
she was being impatient as fuck she should’ve left the drive thru the moment she was having a “heart attack” tf lmfao handled well though i would’ve been pissed asf

bitch had the audacity to say, "heart attack = faster drink" Lmao. You did the right thing by not encouraging a situation where you could've been yelled at, and she was just impatient. So good for you and I hope she gets an actual heart attack xoxo. 🥺🥺

In an age where everyone thinks they are a DR I HATE to make a statement like this but like I’m no dr but I’m pretty sure caffeine’s going to make a heat attack worse.
cyan_reynolds2 points1y ago
I would've offered to decaf her drink after I called an ambulance
imaraisin22 points1y ago
Just say “you have an heart attack? Let me call emergency services.”
lewabwee17 points1y ago
If she was really having a heart attack you should have refused service.... I mean it’s decaf but that drink would not be making anything better.
And she’s clearly not concerned about her made up affliction because she’s in the drive thru ordering caramel.
I dunno I either would have not taken her literally and just assumed she was being really impatient or anxious orrrrr I would have informed her if she’s having a heart attack in my drive thru I need to call 9/11 because I’m not going to be liable if she dies in the drive thru.

Well ma’am I found a non us currency and instead of asking you for the rest of the money, I see you’re in severe distress so I let the transaction through. Have a great day, I hope your heart feels better!
Kill them bitches with kindness, they will look like complete buttholes
ellsb3lls13 points1y ago
huh?? how is she casually having a heart attack while ordering and waiting for a drink through dt? 😭 girl bye
nowateramericano10 points1y ago
Personally I would have pointed out that she gave me the Brazilian currency and asked for that dollar. If she pressed the idea of a heart attack… I would have grabbed the phone and told her I was gonna call 911.
Arevrec7 points1y ago
No you got played. She made up a lame excuse to rush you and I definitely would not have taken that dollar. She knew what she was doing that’s why she asked you about the change. Don’t let these people walk over you. Do you know what a heart attack is?
Js_On_My_Yeet5 points1y ago
Somebody who says they are having a heart attack in a starbucks drive thru and calmly asking how much their total was is not having a heart attack.
juju4835 points1y ago
Ignore comments like those. If she was having a heart attack the last thing she needs is a sugar loaded drink. She wouldn't be sitting in the drive thru, she would have pulled on through to the ER
Catpants215 points1y ago
Yes you did. If that woman was already being THAT dramatic about her drink that she claims she was having a heart attack, she would’ve been more dramatic over the change.

This is the depressing part of this job. When you question yourself because some one else is a piece of shit. Sweetie. You did nothing wrong. You handled the situation fine and sometimes there is no winning with people. Most people are just horrible. Starbucks may say to see the good in everyone but sometimes it just ain't us. It's them.
Roseyy-Girl3 points1y ago
If she was having a heart attack, she should've called an ambulance, not been through the dt. Lady must have been mad tripping. I don't suggest taking foreign currency either, it's just not the best thing to do and frustrates the shift who has to do money count. You were doing the best you could do and that's what matters. :)
lily-amber3 points1y ago
I’d have asked for her to give me the right currency and ignored her “heart attack”. If she were having one she wouldn’t be getting starbucks. I honestly am pretty bitter with customers like these. It’s nice that you care so much but sometimes you have to put your foot down and demand some respect.

Fugg dem Karens.
uwumoment2 points1y ago
some customers have weird priorities. imagine going through a starbucks drive thru when you’re having a heart attack
muhkiim1 points1y ago
Lol I would've been like " ma'am, you need to park while I call an ambulance." I'm sure she would've chilled out real quick.
