Advice for a new hire? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sneakyguy42
I just got hired at my local location. I’m working part-time while going to graduate school; I’m not working to support myself, just to help the people who do. I’ve never worked a service job before but I have a background in social work and am used to managing others’ emotions.

Any advice you have to share with me before I accept the position?

It's a rewarding job, where you'll undoubtedly learn about yourself and working with others. You'll have some of the best coworkers you'll ever have.

The benefits are phenomenal. Stock grants, fully vested 401k, great health benies, too.

The job itself just has a lot of smaller bits of information to learn and adapt. No one specific task is difficult by itself, it's rather the combination of all the things going on at once that make it difficult. However, it eventually all becomes muscle memory and you just glide through. So, never be afraid to ask questions.

(buy a good pair of non-slip shoes)
