Can I get in trouble for calling off after getting the vaccine? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Proper-Childhood-390
Hello I just wanted to ask if I will get written up for calling off after getting the vaccine? Is there any official link that I can show my manager?

A partner who gets a COVID-19 vaccine may have some side effects, which are normal signs that their body is building protection. The following side effects may be felt after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination:
Fever
Chills
Tiredness
Headache

If partners have been vaccinated in the past three days and are reporting the symptoms above, it is likely they are experiencing side effects of the vaccine. These partners do not need to self-isolate and are eligible to work **if they feel well enough to do so.** If partners experience any other symptoms of illness, or if it has been more than three days since their vaccination, follow the recommendations in the COVID-19 Virtual Coach and the illness policy outlined in the Food Safety Manual.

Essentially, no you cannot get in trouble for calling in. Just say you’re sick and that’s that if you don’t feel well enough to work.

The $1 (aka the questions you’re supposed to answer before every shift)

Absolutely not as long as you do so before your shift(unless so sick you're unable to) and not so often it's as if you're not sick. If you do call out, know it is not your responsibility to fill your shift, it is your managers' duty afaik(I know from a form I signed years ago)

The vaccine side effects can hit like a wall and can last a few hours or days, so if you feel a little down, it wouldn't hurt to call off and take care of yourself.

If you work in a U.S. corporate store you cannot get in trouble. Not only can you call out without repercussions, you can get paid for it:

>All active U.S. store partners who experience side effects preventing them from working a scheduled shift are eligible for up to four (4) hours of paid time off within 48 hours of receiving a dose, up to 2 doses.

Really just depends on your manager. Try to give as much notice as you can and keep the reason simple. “Not feeling well” is all you need. Plenty of managers will try to give you a hard time and try to get you to fight through it or whatever. They’re always looking for/noticing the people who have trouble saying no or standing their ground and they will take advantage of those people. I know it can be hard because everyone is worried about losing their job but you won’t get fired for calling in sick unless you make it a super regular thing.

Just tell them in advance when you need a day off.
