Here’s a lil ditty to remember: “They make a dollar, I make a dime. Aaaand that’s why I poop on company tiiiiime”
AUserNameThatsTaken170 points1y ago
Correction: They make a thousand and you get a dime.
cringeqween1342 points1y ago
If we break down the annual income for 2020 into dollars and dimes, they made roughly $2,187.22 for every dime we made. (Base on a 10$ base pay)

i always pee on company time
sharkiemd153 points1y ago
i don’t think it really matters. just don’t say you’re back and then immediately go to the bathroom, that’s kind of annoying. but also if anyone is tracking your bathroom habits that closely they’re a fuckin weirdo lol.

Haaa I do this often. I would say be mindful of your shift’s time and energy, and their scheduling constraints. Get your 2 mins but be aware if they’re in a crunch for breaks. :)
esaeklsg9 points1y ago
I actually would hate this as a SS. Then you're back in like 35 minutes when I'm expecting you back in 30, and I'm probably trying to find out where you are, but since you're in the bathroom, you're nowhere to be found. I'd prefer if someone just let me know.
OneRoseDark61 points1y ago
As a SSV, i am absolutely not clocking people closely enough for this. I assume you'll be back in a reasonable amount of time, since we're all adults capable of time management, and worry about other things. Whether it's been 32 or 35 or 29 minutes isn't even on my radar.
esaeklsg15 points1y ago
I definitely was when I was with Starbucks, but as an example, one of my stores would have very tight times to run halves for our 6+ hr crew after peak before our 4-5hr crew left. Every minute someone ran over I might have to make a call whether I send someone on a half when the previous person is missing and understaff us for an unknown time, or have me and another barista be a 2 person floor for the collective missed time in the midday, when we were still steady. And of course not show any of this stress to customers or baristas because I don't want anyone to feel guilty about using the restroom.
It can be very dependent on store / staffing / time of day, etc.
sheep_heavenly7 points1y ago
Eh, that's on us for expecting a 30 minute lunch to only take 30. In reality it also took 1-3 minutes to get the barista free from their current task and it'll take another 1-3 or more to transition them back onto the floor and getting everyone into whatever the next need is. Build leeway into your break schedule and it's all smooth sailing!
esaeklsg1 points1y ago
I would love to have been able to build leeway into a break schedule. And on some shifts, in some stores, it's easier than others. On some shifts, in some stores, your SM schedules you 1.5 hrs after peak-blackout to run three halves and two tens amid all the other post-peak tasks.
I would argue the corporate needs to give out more labor any day. But that doesn't help in the moment.
glitterandgrime3 points1y ago
Ugh I worked somewhere once and they WERE tracking me that closely and I wound up quitting because the place was horrible BUT the supervisor who worked with me my last day was like yeah I was supposed to talk to you about clocking in then going to the bathroom but oh well. I immediately thought Whaaaaat the fuck??? Good thing I’m getting out of here. Creeps!
tokenfema1e41 points1y ago
as my trainer told me on my first day in reference to 10 min breaks, "you get paid to pee, those 10 minutes are all yours."
Sdee123429 points1y ago
I give a fiveinute grace period around breaks for baristas to gather snacks/drinks and pee. Anything outside of that really starts to cut in to your fellow baristas breaks. This should be standard. Its why we schedule tens on the 15 of every hour
Chemical-Less21 points1y ago
Oh I always clock in before using the bathroom. A couple minutes extra off the floor never hurts lol
paintthatface14 points1y ago
Most of the time it’s okay but if a lot of people are behind on breaks just be mindful of them too. Just because if everyone takes extended breaks it can add up and that suck when it’s been a super busy day or something happened where breaks are behind. I sometimes get my break like 30+minutes later than expected cause when I run my floors I make sure my baristas have their breaks caught up first

"Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I poop on company time."
GarbageValuable18887 points1y ago
As long as you *make your shift aware that you are using the bathroom* it’s fine. Your 10s and 30s are your time. That being said, I’d try to make sure it isn’t too busy before using the bathroom, as that puts fellow baristas in a worse position
august4015 points1y ago
i always make sure to go to the bathroom on the clock lol my break is for eating and looking at my phone
Lilium8165 points1y ago
I see a lot of people on here saying "boss makes a dollar...."
Just remember, it's not the company you are hurting. You're making it more difficult for your shift to give out breaks to your fellow baristas.
That being said, I give a bit of a grace period to my baristas as well, but please don't clock back in from your thirty and spend another 10 minutes in/waiting for the bathroom.
raptoraptorr5 points1y ago
Lol nope I always clock back in and immediately go to the restroom. Fuck that “looking like an asshole” they should be doing the same!!!
bethanyjbrooks34 points1y ago
I ALWAYS pee (or poop, honestly) on company time, following my 10s/lunch breaks. I pretty much use the bathroom every time I finish my break just so I do not have to inconveniently go during my shift. Usually, I’ll either use the bathroom while I’m waiting on my drink/food to be made by my coworkers, or I will clock back in and use the bathroom before hitting the floor again. Sometimes I’ll even tell my co-workers that I’m using the bathroom real quick before coming back on the floor. They rarely ever care. The only people who are ever anal about bathroom breaks on company time are a*skissers who want to work their way up in the company and be rule-police.
sheep_heavenly3 points1y ago
Space it out. That little microbreak of almost silence to use the bathroom is fucking golden.
There's no policy dictating you must only bathroom on your breaks and there's many areas with laws that you cannot count bathroom time as break time.
firepaper3 points1y ago
I only really care if you go to the bathroom while you’re stationed on the floor without making sure anyone is covering you or that someone has okayed you going. I’m not gonna make you hold it in for an hour but I want a heads up that my window person is leaving for five minutes so I can get someone to hand stuff out
femalehomosapien182 points1y ago
I had a co worker get mad at me for using the bathroom 3 times during my 8 hour shift, not my fault I have to stay hydrated to do my job behind a hot bar during the summer heat. I only go on my breaks if I REALLY can’t hold it, it’s immature to think adults can use the bathroom when they need to
fookyall2 points1y ago
I always make it a point to do my business ON the clock 🤣
LilKaySigs2 points1y ago
I be going to the bathroom after I clock in 😳
esaeklsg2 points1y ago
I wouldn't necessarily plan it specifically right after your meal breaks. A lot of time someone else's break is waiting on you to get back, or someone else was waiting on using the restroom to get their position covered, etc. Making them wait extra time because you couldn't use the restroom on your break sounds rude, to me. Like to me, stuff like that is what breaks are for.
Also as a SS, I was usually making sure I wasn't in the middle of something when I was expecting someone on so I could check in with them and get them placed. Having to then wait for someone to use a restroom is definitely a "why couldn't you just use the restroom before" feeling.
Also as a thought, I wouldn't eat a meal outside of my break if I could eat a meal on my break. But if I had unexpected low blood sugar or something a snack outside of a break is cool (like a restroom break between breaks.) I'm not sure I have an argument for why restroom usage is different. 10's I care less about because they are just so gosh darn short, that restroom / snack / rehydrate / get off your feel at all just isn't possible.
Basically: if a coworker is waiting on you for something, I think it's rude to not use the restroom on a 30 or before work. If it's a slow day or overstaffed or whatever I couldn't care less.
uwumoment1 points1y ago
i always poo on company time u will not see my counting my poo time as a break
NotyourangeLbabe1 points1y ago
The only time I wait for my break to use the restroom is if I know I’m gonna be in there for a long time and it’s between the hours of 7am-1pm
katnip0941 points1y ago
I always use the bathroom when I'm on the clock. I rarely work long shifts that require a lunch, but when I have to pee isn't really up to me - it's my bladder lol
spacebrain4201 points1y ago
For me I try to go potty before I leave my house for work. If it's peak I won't go unless I really can't hold it but if we aren't busy I don't ever feel bad for going. I wouldn't specifically wait to clock back in from lunch to go to the restroom like if you gotta go during your 30 just go but also like I said don't feel bad for needing to go on the clock.
c8ham0 points1y ago
Always clock back in then go to the restroom before coming back on the floor
